We have stayed at various places around Rome and wanted to give Trastevere a go this time around and found this flat, which also met our requirement of having a terrace (or balcony). The location is fantastic, just a block down from Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere. Note that this is the epicenter of tourism, something we normally try to avoid but “for once”. The flat is on the bottom floor so no stairs to climb, which is normally the case if you go for rooftop terraces. The flat is big and the beds were super comfy! Water pressure in the shower was unmatched (bottom floor). Note: While all other faucets adhere to the universal principle “hot water/left and cold water/right” the shower is the opposite here. The kitchen is cramped and not very well equipped and the spark lighter (for the gas stove) was empty so we had to use our own lighter (which is a bit scary since you might burn yourself). Cleaning was so-so. All light switches and e.g. stove buttons were really dirty (when cleaning: go for where human fingers go!) and had to be cleaned before we wanted to touch them. The (free) wifi signal was very weak, even when lying on the bed, just a few meters from the router, sitting on a desk in the hallway. We tried to move the router closer (which wasn’t really possible) but this didn’t help. The terrace is reached by a spiral staircase (it helps to be appropriately slim here) and is both big and feels secluded, despite the fact that several balconies and terraces look down on it. There are even Christmas lights to be plugged in, making it very cosy indeed! Romantic enough! Since the flat lies smack dab in the tourist areas you can hear both tourists and restaurants through the walls at night but disturbing sounds ended before midnight the nights we stayed there so not too much of a problem.
The main drawback was checking in/the host. Days prior to checking in we got “bot-like” messages sending us to third-party sites (something Booking explicated warns about), were told to send multiple photos of both our passports and of ourselves holding our passports, fill out very detailed forms about ourselves including “tax numbers” (no idea what was meant here), all of this accompanied by correspondences with bot-like and formulaic text snippets that made us feel even more insecure as to whether or not this was “legit” at all. We were very close to cancel the entire thing and had even found a hotel that was “one click away” but after extensive googling and asking around we were told that the third-party site, Vikey, this “host” makes use is legit, so we went for it and so far (knock on wood!) our identities seems unstolen and our bank accounts aren’t depleted. It seems that this might have something to do with this flat being handled by airbnb instead of directly by the host. Well, in the end everything worked out well, and the flat met all our expectations but in the future we will make sure that the flats we rent don’t involved third party sites/organizations and all correspondence seems to be with a bot (we still don’t know whether we ever corresponded with a human being here). But if you are used to/with Vikey (googling tells us this is mainly an “Italian thing”) and don’t have qualms about sending photos of your passports and yourselves to bot-like third party sites (which we do; we will change our passports now) we recommend this flat. We are perhaps just over-cautious.

La localisation super
L’accueil. Pas d’explication, pas la bonne adresse donnée. Des indications pour l’ouverture des lieux un peu floues. Mais ça s’est arrangé en quelques textos
