Great value onsen with fantastic meals in a good location
Both myself (English) and my wife (Singaporean) have travelled Japan and visited many onsens - some much older than this one. Many of the negative comments here made us think we had stayed at a different onsen!
Our experience of Bosenkan was nothing short of exceptional. The service from the staff - who spoke English very well - was excellent from check-in to check-out. The staff showed us everything in the room, tea/coffee/aircon/wifi etc. We also had a room with a small outside private onsen. The gardens were well maintained and very nice to look at. There is a footpath spa there as well which was enjoyable.
Our room was spotlessly clean and the futon/quilt was very comfortable.
We had the dinner with optional Hida beef. There were many dishes and each was very tasty as you can see from the photos. I would say that my only criticism of the meal was the Miso soup - which was a bit weak for my palate. Other than that, the food was delicious.
The outside onsen (I didn’t try the inside public one so I cannot comment) was relaxing and the water very soft on the skin and the temperature was just right for me (I like slightly hotter - about 42degree). I stayed in there for more than an hour soaking up the ambiance.
Breakfast was an equally delicious affair with many dishes with local rice and vegetables with fish. Nice! This onsen in my opinion, was good value.
Overall, our experience was a great one - better than some more expensive onsens we visited.
There was genuinely nothing to not like!

Good value in a ryokan with friendly staff and somewhat worn facilities.
Staff was very helpful. Most were from South Asia and were depended on to communicate with me as an English speaker. The breakfast was beautiful and delicious.
The facilities are worn and in need of updating. Carpet in the hallway was worn bare in spots. Some of the dark wood furniture had worn edges so that bare wood was shown.

Beautiful hotel and very friendly staff.
Beautiful hotel with Japanese outside garden. Good location with everything around by walking distance. Spacious outdoor parking, friendly staff and beautiful room with the view. Public bath was not possible to use because of tattoos, however we were able to rent private stone bath ( 45min - 2000yen). It was beautiful experience and I would really recommend it.

The outside onsen was beautiful. Sleeping on the floor was a nice experience.
It looked like it needed a renovation or at least a good clean-up. The walls were dirty and the fridge was very old, noisy and yellow. The first room we got the air con was so loud we told the staff and they were kind enough to change our room.
