About this house rental

Situated in Brookline, this lovely house for $375 per night is a fantastic choice for your next break. This house was originally built in 1860. In 1900 the house was purchased and converted into a 2-family home to accommodate extended family. Today homes like this in Boston have been converted into apartments and condos. Retaining its original structure each room in this historic 2 address house has been renovated to offer all of the modern conveniences that make for a pleasant stay. House characteristics of that era like steep stairs and smaller room sizes could prove challenging for some visitors, but perfect for those looking to fully experience the history of Boston. This upper unit has 2,200 square feet of living space divided into 12 rooms consisting of 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, living room, dining room, den/5th bedroom, porch, game room, large yard, outside BBQ with patio dining for 8 and off-street parking for 2 cars. The house allows a maximum of 12 people. The standard sleeping configuration is to use the 4 bedrooms and the den as sleeping areas. However for added convenience and privacy the sleeping areas can be expanded during warm weather months into 8 distinct sleeping areas that include: 1) Master Bedroom queen size bed (with an EZ inflate twin in the closet), 2) Maple Bedroom full size bed, 3) White Bedroom full size bed, 4) Porch Bedroom full size bed, 5) Den full size and twin size sleeper couches, 6) Porch twin size bed (not heated so unusable Nov–Mar), 7) 3rd floor Loft twin size bed and 8) Game Room EZ inflate queen size bed (also not heated so unusable Nov–Mar). Boston is America’s oldest city with the downtown area surrounded by 22 Boston neighborhoods. The property is situated in Boston’s “Brighton neighborhood”, which is the college neighborhood surrounded by Harvard to the North, Boston College to the South and Boston University to the East. This location is ideal as you are only 5 miles from downtown Boston and 200 yards from Brighton Center. Brighton Center is a quaint urban area with banks, a post office, library, restaurants, pubs, coffee shops, pizza places, ice cream parlors and more. Enjoy a Pats or Sox game with locals in one of the Irish pubs, have lunch in a pleasant courtyard restaurant, or take an after dinner stroll for some ice cream. Brighton’s lively center offers an authentic taste of life in the Boston area. The house is also within walking distance from a United Church of Christ, Roman Catholic Church and a Jewish Synagogue. Boston’s public transit system, “the T” includes: subway, trolley, bus, rail and ferry options. A 3 minute walk to the “T stop” allows you to quickly get anywhere in the city, while saving you the cost of staying at a downtown hotel. If you rent a car or use Uber, it’s a 1.5-mile drive to the Mass Pike (I-90) that gets you to downtown Boston in 15 minutes and then anywhere else in New England.

The house is well stocked with essential items- is warm and inviting. The location is great- nice restaurants, grocery, pharmacy in walking distance. Only caution is that there are a lot of stairs with narrow treads - our older family members had a hard time navigating.

The house is well set up for large groups of people. There were plenty of sleeping options. The neighborhood is really nice. It is walking distance to several good bars, coffee shops, restraunts and concert venues.

The size of the house worked well for a family who wanted space to watch football while others wanted a space for hanging out. The two living spaces were a plus. We cooked Thanksgiving dinner and ate at the long dining room table with the china in the house. The house is old-as stated and has some interesting quirks one would expect in a house that old. We walked to Boston College for the football game which was easy and the closeness of Starbucks, CVS and grocery stores a plus Owner should put some of the basics in the house like a few coffee pods and a Keurig for guests the first morning. Also, we had to "heat up" the house when we entered which would have been nice if house was minimally heated when we arrived. It heated up nicely after arriving. Overall a great location and big house for a family of 5

There were 6 in our party and we had plenty of room for sleeping and dining. We had trouble with the front door but were able to get in and out. We also had trouble with the TV in the living room, could not get the cable or streaming channels to come on, but we were able to watch a DVD. The porch TV worked fine. We were not there much so it all worked out. I know the property manager would have helped if we asked because he and the owner were very responsive and wanted to ensure our needs were met.

The property was everything it was described to be. However, the doorknob on the front door was broken (didn’t affect the security of the place due to the keypad, but still sketchy). There was what looked to be mud or feces on some of the towels that were there for showering. The A/C units could use a decent cleaning as well as we saw some mold spores in the vents. Additionally, the dishwasher door had to be held shut it order to run properly and there were HUGE carpenter ants that were in the kitchen, bathroom, and common areas.

The house and neighborhood were both outstanding. It was such a great trip. Plenty of space, very cool colonial feel. Huge backyard to hangout in with a very cool church bell tower rite behind in the distance that chimes on the hour giving the house such a calming ambience. The chimes are not heard from inside, so don't worry about it waking you up. Plenty of parking as well. I highly recommend!

In the burbs but easy access to public transit. Quirky, old house but well maintained and well stocked.
