About this condo rental
Aloha! Welcome to our ocean paradise at the Kahana Outrigger. We take great pride in our island home and want to ensure you have everything you need for a very enjoyable and comfortable holiday. Our best advertising is the feedback from our guests - please do check out our "Traveler Reviews" on this site. You won't believe how close to the ocean our condo is. You literally can throw a stone from the Lanai and hit the ocean. The pool is just as close the other way. You can sit on the Lanai enjoying the spectacular and unobstructed view. Our unit is older and has not had a recent major renovation (kitchen and bathrooms) inside. If you like a classic, well cared for unit close to the ocean this condo is for you. If you're looking for a modern renovation this is probably not the condo for you. We continue to do minor upgrades to the condo each year during our stays. Improvements on our last trip included a new TV in the living room (internet enabled for NetFlix and Amazon), tile repairs, more new chairs for the dining room and lanai, and new boogie boards. All the appliances and mattresses are less than 5 years old. All the other furniture is the condo is less than 10 years old. We just finished a thorough fall cleaning and maintenance of the unit including bleaching all the kitchen drawers and cupboards, washing all the dishes, cleaning under all the beds, washing all the baseboards, and more. Here is a list of our favorite things about the condo: 1. The condo is right on the ocean with stunning, unobstructed views of the ocean and the neighbouring islands of Lanai and Molokai. 2. We are on the ground level with easy access to the beach and the pool. We are only a seashell's throw from the water. 3. The condo is over 1,450 sq. ft. - big enough to give everyone their own space. 4. There are 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms - great for multiple families, extended families, and friend get-aways. 5. There is a tub, washer/dryer, a Pack 'n Play, a stroller and sand toys in the unit, handy for families with young kids. 6. In addition to the very private beach at your door step, you have your pick of some of the best beaches on Maui. Kahana Beach is just one block from our front door and offers great swimming for the entire family. Napili Bay Beach is just a few minutes north and has some of the best snorkeling conditions on the west side. Just beyond Napili is the famous Kapalua Bay Beach which has been rated the #1 Beach in American twice! Also minutes away are Flemings Beach, great for surfing and boogie boarding, and Honolua Bay, a natural marine life sanctuary. 7. Our Maui home is part of a low-rise, low density condo development with 4 buildings each containing 4 units (5 steps up). We are situated on a quiet street and are only minutes away from all the best island attractions, shopping, restaurants, and world class beaches! 8. It is not uncommon to wake up to morning rainbows over the water, witness visiting humpback whales breaching through the water (in season), or spot resident sea turtles lazily floating out in front of our grassy knoll all from the comfort of our lanai. Unfortunately do past bad experiences we do not rent to residents of Maui or large groups renting multiple units at the Kahana Outrigger. While this unit is older and in need of some renos. It was clean and the location was amazing! Beach right off the deck!

The condo is in a beautiful location with a beach and pool. While older and not renovated, it vas very clean, comfortable, and had such an amazing view. The owner was very kind to work with us as our family got separated due to the fires. This is a gem of a place to stay.

Beautiful location, right on the ocean, beach right off the lanai. Great location to also explore other beaches in the area and close to Lahaina. Enjoyed the Old Lahaina Luau, best one on the islands. Plenty of room for our six adults and one infant to spread out.

For us this was a great location, away from the masses yet close enough to enjoy all the area offers. The ocean is literally steps away. Lots of whale watching from the deck. This home was comfortable, clean and stocked with quality cookware, tableware, utensils and appliances. Many restaurants and food trucks close by.

Very large, well equipped. Beautiful spot with private beach and lawn. Yes, it is a bit old (lights, AC not working, but the bottom line is that we would come back to enjoy the condo, without any reservation.

We had no problems finding and entering our condo. We loved the morning rainbow and seeing Moloka’i across the way! My teens loved the extra space and bathrooms. We could spread out and have space to invite friends over! We would definitely stay here again.

We had a great week in this spacious, well laid out townhouse. The deck and view are amazing. Kitchen was very well stocked with pots/pans/Tupperware, ample dishes, a quiet Bosch dishwasher and large microwave. Lots of fluffy white towels and beach towels.

The title says it all, you stay here for the location. The lanai is just incredible. As others have said, the house is a bit dated as far as floors/walls go. However the couches are comfy (different than the listing pic), the beds were good, decent water pressure, and having a washer/dryer was great. The proximity to the water is dreamy. Plenty of room for our group of 8.
Issues we had were: the refrigerator never got cold even after a week and we had several hundred dollars worth of food spoil. The contact said he'd send someone to fix it but never did. No extra sheets/pillows for the air mattress. (Air mattress itself was a very nice extra high queen size though.)
I would consider staying here again but would plan on only using the freezer as a fridge and coolers for food. It was just tremendously disappointing to lose so much food.

I am going to start by saying that when we showed up to check in the place had not been cleaned yet. I called the owner and he got the cleaning company there in like 20-30 minutes. The condo is older there are some upgrades like the appliances, beds, and TV's. It does need some other upgrades throughout. It is pretty outdated. I did have to fix the sliding glass door it was off the track. The Condo could use a little TLC. Its listed as have 3 beds but it has 4 and does come with a really nice air mattress.
Pros- The Condo is spacious plenty of room for a big family
Its a super quiet complex, the view is spectacular, the pool was nice, the ocean is right outside, shopping and restaurant's are super close, its close to beautiful beaches, really easy to find, plenty of boogey boards, snorkel gear, books, games.
Cons- Its a good drive from the airport about an hour, all the screens need to be replaced, ceiling fan in dining room didn't work, the ceiling fan in front bedroom had a loose fan blade, the middle bedrooms door handle was coming off, the bathroom sink in the middle room leaked, cracked an uneven tiles throughout condo, the air filters in the all the air conditioners need to be changed, electrical outlets where coming off (could be a fire hazard), the shower in the master room is really weird it points directly sideways, the shower drains really slow. The beach isn't that great of a swim beach its really rocky and shallow.
Even with all that being said these are minor things that could be fixed very easily.
We enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.

However, there were a few issues when we arrived that we wanted to have addressed right away. We left a message for the management company immediately after arriving and again around 1pm the second day. We also texted the owner (he responded fairly quickly) who said he would get in touch with them, but advised they were short-staffed. We stayed 6 nights and never heard back from either the management company or the owner. Luckily we were able to work around the problems, but it made our stay less convenient. I understand that labor shortages are a real problem, but that is no excuse for completely ignoring us for 6 days.
Pros - amazing views, comfortable beds, price, good set up for children (this could be a con for childless travelers like us - there were a ton of kids in the pool when we arrived)
Cons - too much stuff stored on lanai, no way to get help with issues on property, guests in nearby unit were partying way past 10pm quiet hour and with the old windows it was very hard to sleep, screen doors on lanai in bad shape and won’t stay on track, two bathrooms had no place to hang wet towels (one had a towel bar that just needed to be rehung but we didn’t have an allen wrench) bathroom lights turned off intermittently and wouldn’t turn back on, we were unable to reset the safe so had to carry valuables with us

The property outside the unit is beautiful, very clean, & has the best view! However, and the unit itself isn’t bad… very outdated but overall not bad. The problem is the communication with the owner once we arrived and noticed the master bedroom’s tv didn’t work I contacted owner and was given Chasin Rainbows as the contact for any maintenance issues. I called them on our 2nd day of our stay and left message. I called everyday and left messages until day 6 of our 9 day vacation. Was able to speak to someone at Chasin Rainbows only to be told that this unit was not managed by them. I was told this twice during 2 different conversations with them. Somehow a message was given to someone because late on day 6 a maintenance guy showed up looked at the tv and said he that he thought it was a burnt out cable and thought he had one in his truck. He left and we never saw or heard from him again. I sent a few texts to the owner after this and heard absolutely nothing back from him. If we travel back to Maui, we 100% would stay at this complex but would for sure rent from another owner.

Pros: spacious property (looks better than pics posted online), beach front, located close to beautiful beaches, grocery store, Lahaina. Etc. Appreciated that there was a high chair for my baby and several pool and beach toys for my kiddos. Also having a washer/ dryer and BBQ area was beneficial!
Cons: a little outdated, cleanliness of property could have been better. Dead cockroach underneath bathroom sink, dusty ceiling fans and nightstands. Tip: bring your own trash bags and sponge because property does not include.

Not enough laundry soap. Washer sounds like an airplane is taking off. Freezer has ice build up so freezer door won't shut easily.

Just something to keep in mind when splitting or choosing rooms. The location had a few walkable eateries and coffee shops to go to which was great. But just a short car ride south also brought you to the food trucks and a great small spot for some fresh poke. Washer and dryer was great at the location too.

We enjoyed the lodging that included 3 Bedrooms and 3 Bathrooms. One of the bedrooms was smaller than the other two but was not a problem for our group. The pool is steps from the deck and the private beach is a few steps beyond that. Of course the beauty of Maui requires leaving the complex but the amenities at the doorstep, along with the spaciousness of the unit meant we were content hanging out.

Issues that were never addressed during our stay were two missing windows in a ground floor shower, the master bathroom’s primary light was inoperable, one bed frame that was broken & supported with scrap wood but leaning severely, three kitchen lights that were burnt out, no laundry shop provided despite listing “Basic Soaps” as included amenities and the ceiling fan in the main living area was inoperable.
With respect to Maui County, Code of Ordinances, § 19.65.080 1.c. & § 19.65.030 E.1. the owner didn’t respond for five hours the first time I texted him and it took him four days to respond to an internal email via VRBO. His maintenance staff took multiple days to arrive to address the issues above despite promising to come over with 24 hours. They arrived without warning about three days later and only addressed two burnt our light bulbs out of five that were inoperable in the kitchen.
With respect to Maui County, Code of Ordinances, § 19.65.080 1.g. and 1.f. the owner was alerted to the fact that two ground floor windows that accessed the second master bathroom’s shower had both of its windows missing. He dismissed the issue as “minor maintenance” and not something requiring his attention or a large enough problem to issue us any refund. The home’s building envelope was not intact and must be out of compliance with building codes, occupancy permit requirements and a host of other rules & regulations for short term rentals. We were at risk to anyone you wanted to gain access to our rental, voyeurs, and pests to list just a few potential problems.
Maui County, Code of Ordinances:
§ 19.65.080. Revocation and Enforcement.
Revocation procedures.
1. The permit may be revoked if the director finds any of the following:
c. Evidence of non-responsive management.
g. Noncompliance with permit conditions.
i. Noncompliance with other governmental requirements.
§ 19.65.030. Restrictions and standards.
E. The manager of the short-term rental home shall:
1. Be accessible to guests, neighbors, and County agencies. For purposes of this section, "accessible" means being able to answer the telephone at all times, being able to be physically present at the short-term rental home within one hour following a request by a guest, a neighbor, or a County agency, and having an office or residence within thirty driving miles.
