The host Patrick and his son Hunter are the epitome of perfect hosts. The property has so much ornate and fine detailing it's a living masterpiece. I brought my family of 16 and we had private rooms with bathrooms and beds to spare. I recommend you let Patrick make dinner as it was exquisite and perfectly delivered. The breakfast they serve is over the top with meats and eggs and breads and smoothies and fresh fruit. No expense was spared to make our stay memorable. We will certainly book here again on our next trip. It was a pleasure to stay here and we are sad to leave. Simply amazing....

We could not have asked for a more lovely stay at Patricks place. These guys truly know how to take care of your every need. Delicious home cook breakfast every morning, and Patrick even made us dinner a couple of nights. I can honestly say he made some of the best meals we had while in Costa Rica. I am so glad we decided on staying here. It was a culmination of things that made our stay perfect! 1st was Patrick and his wife Alisa were perfect hosts. The meals they prepared were tasty and filling, we didn't have to plan anything(Patrick did it all for us), the house was soooo comfortable. It felt like home and the views!!!! Oh my goodness, the veiws were amazing. I would sit out on the balcony and have my coffee with their friendly dogs while looking out at the volcano and watching pelicans land in the trees in front of me. Simply soul refreshing!!!

Our group of ten adults stayed at the Sunset Nov 1-5,'23 and could not have been more pleased with our experience.
Villa – The home is amazing with views of Lake Arenal and the Arenal Volcano. The humidity in the Cloud Forest can be quite thick, but the AC units in the bedrooms made sleeping very comfortable. A separate refrigerator for guests was perfect.
Food – a delicious breakfast was prepared each day by Luisa & Mar. Each day was a little different but always included freshly prepared smoothies (to which we added rum). We opted to have Patrick make dinner for us for two of the nights – both dinners were absolutely amazing. We also had fabulous meals at Gingerbread Restaurant & Hotel and Tinajas Arenal.
Transportation – Miguel was our driver for our stay (airport pickup & excursions) and was absolutely, positively, without question, a highlight of our trip. He took great care of us and was always happy to make stops whenever we wanted and also took us to out of the way places for food, drinks, or amazing vistas.
Excursions – take Patrick seriously when he says wait to book your excursions until you get to CR and meet with him. Our group enjoyed: white water rafting, Bogarin Trail sloth park, animal rescue center, hanging bridges, Baldi Hot Springs, and shopping.
Helpful hints: Download WhatsApp before you leave home, best way to communicate w/ host while in CR. CC/US$ taken (MC/VISA mostly; Amex/Discover sometimes). Take raincoats/ponchos, reusable bags for shopping.

The house is big, plenty of room for family get together. The breakfasts every morning fixed by Patrick’s wife and a helper were suburb. Patrick fixed dinners for us almost every night and was very good at all the dietary restrictions we gave him. Everyone was very tolerant of two very rambunctious boys. There were no toys for the youngest at 2 yr old. But he did enjoy the pool and hot tub. The bedrooms were large comfortable each with their own bathrooms. The kitchen had everything you could ever need. The outdoor patio over looking lake Arenal was wonderful. We had a couple mornings were the clouds were right on top of us, hence the Cloud Forest. We hired Miguel as our driver for the week and he was suburb in his accommodation of our group and knowledge of the area. He acted as our tour guide. While the older members went on adventures Miguel took others with the 2 yr old to wonderful playgrounds and stayed with us till time to go back and pick up the others. I would highly recommend The Sunset for large group vacations.

We love Costa Rica so much that we planned our family vacation with 19 of us (ages 12-45) staying at Patrick's VRBO. From the moment our driver Miguel and his daughter picked us up from the airport, we knew we were in good hands. Patrick set everything up for us, every excursion, dinner reservations, grocery shopping, drivers, delicious fresh breakfast every morning, and home made dinner that didn't disappoint. The view from this home was just beautiful and peaceful especially first thing in the AM when it's still quite and you could sit on porch, drink your coffee and watch the parrots and toucans play in the trees and love on the neighborhood dogs. The bedrooms has ice cold A/C, the living room and kitchen don't have A/C, but there are plenty of fans to bring into these areas so you can very comfortably still hang out with everyone and not be hot. The kids and the adults took full advantage of the chessboard, pool and hottub. Most of the excursions we did were an hour away, but again Patrick booked everything and Miguel and his daughter Pamala were there everyday ready to drive us and make any pit stops we requested. Miguel gives you history on the area and always made sure the whole party was safely in van to go to next stop or return home. We all highly recommend the GingerBread House for dinner, you won't be disappointed! Make sure to stop in their German Town and get a icecream coffee and some food. We will 100% go back to this great VRBO, thank you Patrick and team!!

We stayed at this property for four nights in August 2023 and had a great time! It's a beautiful home with amazing views and absolutely wonderful hosts!! Breakfast was delicious every morning and we had dinner prepared for the twelve of us as well one evening! Patrick checked in on us everyday to make sure we had everything we needed and to book/arrange our daily outings. Miguel was our daily driver (which Patrick arranged for us too), as activities we some miles away, and we loved him too!

The property is great. The surroundings are beautiful. The best thing about the house is the owner, Patrick. He and his wife and staff made us feel like we were part of the family. Patrick took care of arranging excursions per our requests. The breakfasts were incredible and the two dinners we had at the house were fabulous also. I hop eto be able to return again in the future.

The Red Sunset is a great property for the family. Multiple rooms each with an en suite bathroom provided great space for the whole family. Daily breakfast was AMAZING and so filling before heading out for adventure nearby. Patrick was great setting us up with different experiences and working them into our timelines as well as providing recommendations for restaurants in the area. The view is amazing and it was so nice being able to enjoy the jacuzzi at the end of each day. Highly recommend!!

This home offers old world beauty and charm with modern amenities (bathroom in every bedroom!) and absolutely breathtaking views of Lake Arenal and the volcano. Patrick ensured all of our needs and interests were taken care of, arranging multiple excursions....this allowed us to literally show up in Costa Rica without planning a thing, yet we zip-lined, ATV'd, went on a chocolate/coffee tour, and swam in a waterfall. Additionally the daily breakfasts were amazing...we felt truly spoiled. Patrick removes the "daunting" factor of visiting a foreign country. I highly recommend this property!

Patrick is your personal concierge. We had a wonderful time staying at the Red Sunset. The property is absolutely beautiful, both inside and out. The views are incredible. Patrick is a wonderful, accommodating host. It was such a treat to have breakfast made for us each morning, and the option to also have wonderful dinners, and all of the food was delicious. Patrick was kind enough to recommend and arrange several outings for us, and contact our transportation company to coordinate with them. We were a group of 3 adults and 5 children, and the amenities and space were perfect. I can’t recommend this property enough!

Our stay at the Red Sunset house was heavenly! Our group of 8, siblings and wives waited three years to visit Costa Rica. The pandemic had other plans for us which delayed our trip but Patrick worked with us to visit in 2023. This beautiful home is spacious with well tended bedrooms and bathrooms enough for a group as large as ours. Cheerful and bright with lovely painted walls and tiled floors, Red Sunset was a dream come true. The grounds are so green and groomed, filled with flowers and trees. The pool house and Jacuzzi provided welcome entertainment for swimming, relaxing and playing pool. A highlight for us were the delicious breakfasts prepared by Alicia and Marjane which included local fare and treats such as banana bread french toast, plantain and fresh fruit. The smoothies were delightful as well. We spent a lot of time on the patio which overlooks Lake Arenal. most of our group loves wildlife and birds and we got to see quite a few of them. We had a great night hike with Crazy Allen, quite a unique experience for sure! Patrick did a great job advising us on activities and making reservations. A wonderful place to be in such a beautiful country!

We were two families, 4 adults and 4 teens. The home is very spacious, clean and comfortable. The view of the lake and Arenal Volcano are beautiful. The breakfasts every morning were delicious and something we looked forward to everyday. Patrick and his wife were simply AMAZING! Patrick was able to coordinate all of our tours and activities. We stumbled upon a new restaurant (La Tortuga)that just opened up 2 weeks before we arrived..it is located right beside the “Lake Arenal” colourful sign..recommend stopping there for a great meal, beer, and coffee. (Had one of the best meals I have ever eaten at place called Gingerbread down the road). Toucans would come and visit each morning and the view of the Arenal Volcano was perfect. We had a wonderful experience at the Sunset. We felt that we had a more authentic Costa Rican experience than you would get at a large resort. The house has a unique vibe to it that you just don't get at a resort or hotel. The wildlife on and near the property was amazing. We even had a late night encounter with a Tapir on the road to the property! Patrick could not have been a better host. He is able to arrange just about any activity you could want on just a days notice. He is happy to set up as much or as little as you want. He takes all the hassle out of trying to figure things out on your own. The morning breakfasts are delicious and are a nice mix of traditional and local foods. This was our first time in Costa Rica and Patrick and his wonderful home have ensured that it won't be the last.

From the moment we arrived, I was blown away. The drive up, the lush greenery on property, views to die for (when it's clear out), all before going inside. I was looking for a house that felt like more of a true Costa Rican vibe, not a contemporary, and that is exactly what this is. The home is not fancy, but it's clean, beautiful, and exactly what I wanted. We had 6 adults, and there was so much room for us. So many beds, a kitchen that has all you could need, and a washer and dryer for us to use after all the fun activities of the day. Speaking of activities....the second we booked, the wonderful host Patrick asked us what activities our family wanted to do. We are an active bunch, and gave him quite a long list, from hanging bridges, horseback riding, ATVs, zip lining, waterfall repelling, sloths..... He made it all happen with ease! He also made reservations for our dinners and cooked in for us one night. So, not only is he a host, he's basically your trip coordinator as well. And you have the bonus option of hiring his driver Miguel. Miguel was amazing! He was given instructions every morning from Patrick on all we were doing that day, and off we went, with the only concern being having fun! The house also comes with an amazing breakfast every morning, and a housekeeper daily that is such a sweet woman. She made all beds after we left each day, washed towels, cleaned up breakfast, took out the trash and left you with nothing to worry about. The house also had musical instruments to play, board games, chess, puzzles, a pool house with hot tub and gym, and we took advantage of all of it! Every person in our party of 6 wants to go back, and we would all choose Patricks place again. On top of all that, the cost is an unreal value as well. I highly highly recommend this property to anyone. It made all our Costa Rica vacation dreams come true!

We are a family of five with three young adults. We could not have asked for a better host and rental for our first time visiting Costa Rica. Patrick described himself as a “co-pilot from a distance” and that was a perfect description. He helped us plan our daily adventures after he cooked a delicious breakfast for us every morning. Every morning Elissa & Mar prepared 5 star authentic breakfasts for us and one evening Patrick prepared a 5 star Italian dinner…we were spoiled!
