About this house rental
Located in Sanibel Island, this charming house for $600 per night is a fantastic option for your next break. Laika House is a comfortable private home steps from the beach and right in the heart of The Village at Captiva. Its large, sunny front porch overlooks the grounds which are surrounded by thriving tropical forests. Laika also has a private heated pool. Laika has outdoor showers downstairs as well, convenient after your return from the beach. Inside, the common areas feature hardwood floors and practical furniture. You’re all set to dine, entertain, or relax after a great day at the beach. French doors open onto the sunny front deck. Keep in touch with WIFI. There are three bedrooms and two full baths. Behind the Laika, House is the pool and backyard, and then a thick tropical forest completely empty of human inhabitants. That means plenty of peace and quiet, fresh breezes, and wonderful nature. Laika’s front grounds were recently landscaped. There is ample privacy for sunbathing on the front deck or swimming in the back. The backyard borders the largest expanse of natural jungle anywhere on Captiva. Depending on the time of year, you might see wildlife including exotic, tropical birds lazily strolling amid the flowering shrubs. The Gulf beach only steps away along sandy, private Laika Lane (no public parking, and virtually no traffic). There is a well-equipped kitchen, carpeting, and French doors out to the porch. It is really adorable! This house gives you everything and is quite a bargain. All reservations/cancellations are subject to the terms and conditions (policies) of the American Realty Rental Agreement once the reservation is booked thru 3rd party platforms. Policies include but are not limited to credit card/debit card convenience fees and cancellation fees.

Laika House was perfect for our group of 3 adults and 3 kids. Short walk to the beautiful beach, great pool for all to play in. Quick response to our service request. Close to Boops by The Bubble Room where we enjoyed coffee, ice cream & desserts several times during our stay. Captiva Island Pizza was quick and delicious as was the Shell City Burger Truck. Wonderful experience with Captain Brian on the Water! So fun to see the island and nature from the water. Multiple trips to JN Ding Darling Natl Wildlife Refuge for birding and their lovely Nature Center and a fun educational trip through the park on the Wildlife Refuge Tram Tour. Happy to see Captiva Strong!

Perfect house for the family. Steps from the beach. Pool at the house. Deck and grill! Good space for everyone and kitchen has all you need. This house has so many good memories for our family. We have stayed in many houses on the island and this one is our fav! Its that type of beach house you feel at home in on vacation. The positives- the location is great. Short walk to the beach and restaurants. The trees and overall landscaping is beautiful. This house has so much potential!! However, the house itself needs so much work. This is our third time staying on the island, and the most we’ve spent this far on a house. For the amount of money… we would expect much nicer amenities. The house was not clean upon arrival; there was food particles on the carpet and under the table. We vacuumed ourselves the first day and the vacuum was full. There was mold in the bathroom shower that could easily be cleaned with bleach. The shower backed up the first day; we called maintenance on this- the gentleman explained it was the way the shower floor slanted ? However, miraculously it was better afterwards. The kitchens drawers were filthy on the insides. All the cabinetry was sticky; like it had never been cleaned. Half the outlets didn’t work. We did contact the office about he lack of cleanliness; they sent a “cleaning crew” back… no idea what more they cleaned, it looked no different. Do not expect beach amenities! Supposedly they are not apart of the rental, but we’ve never had this problem at other homes we’ve rented. The umbrella is rusted out, and broken, beach chairs rusty, old broken tykes wagon -that we were able to get replaced Bc I explained my husbands foot was broken (this is true). Beach towels are torn and old.
If I were the owners of a million dollar home on this beautiful island I would be embarrassed. I’m sure they have no idea what poor shape the house is in… At least I hope not for the amount they are charging.
We had friends visit from Naples and I found myself apologizing for the house!
We love Captiva and work hard to bring our family down for a week. While we still certainly enjoyed ourselves, I will definitely make sure next time that the house is everything one would expect for the amount of money.

Location is best part

The pool was warm and safely on the bottom floor with all of us upstairs. the beds were comfortable and the living space full of sun!! A very short walk and we were on the beach. We actually found it by accident in the kitchen cabinet above the microwave two days later.A number of light bulbs were either burnt out or missing : stove cooktop, kitchen ceiling fan, master bath vanity. Also, the coffee maker had a used coffee filter full of coffee grounds left in the machine, and the coffee pot itself had to be soaked for several hours to get it clean. Not what should be found by incoming renters. Ice maker was not functioning, and only two small ice cube trays were provided, and one was cracked and split and non-functional. We actually bought three more trays and left them for the next renters.Overall we were satisfied with our stay, but paying better attention to simple maintenance items such as those above would have turned the Four Star into a Five Star.

The house is a perfect place for our little family to stay. Just steps from the beach, and also so close to everything in downtown Captiva. The electricity went out for a moment and the realty company was incredibly responsive and was there within minutes! The house is perfect size and heated pool is delightful.

This home is just perfect for 6-8 people. it is nestled near the beach on a quiet tropical road. The pool was a wonderful addition. My only issue was with a few minor things inside (door missing to laundry closet, no hair dryer, some lights not working, fridge shelf missing)

We recently stayed at Laika House over the Christmas holiday. It was perfect for our family of 8 (6 adults and 2 kids)....clean, comfortable and not too fussy. The house is on a quiet dirt lane nestled on a wooded lot. We especially loved that it was only a hundred yards to the beach. The pool was amazingly warm and relaxing at the end of a busy day. We could easily walk to nearby restaurants and shops. The deck off the front of the house provided a nice sunny place to sit and play with the kids. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to others- particularly for families with young kids. Only suggestion we have is to provide renters with more details about what’s available at the house. Real estate company said they didn’t have that info, so we brought beach chairs, umbrellas, and pool/sand toys with us from home when we didn’t need to. Also, would have loved an informational sheet at the house with WiFi code, trash pick up days, TV operations, etc. We look forward to future vacations on Captiva and will stay at the Laika House again.

We were very happy with our Laika House rental. The home is as described, comfortable and well-supplied. Our primary reason for visiting was shelling the Captiva and Sanibel beaches, as well as a Ten Thousand Islands shelling trip. We also toured CROW (Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife) and ate at some fantastic area restaurants, Sanibel Grill, Doc Ford's Captiva, Rosie's, Over Easy, Island Cow, Mudbugs among them. The only dissatisfaction we had was learning of the significant rental cost increase for the same week next year, from base price of $2,000 to $3,200.

We have rented at Captiva tons and tons…like twice a year when we lived in Winter Park, FL….rented last Oct on Laika Ln also. Beach proximity is great…..First time renting this home…. Clean, clean, clean. Really a nice way to start vacay. Just my wife and me. Would be great for two couples or two couples and a kid or two…. Three couples might be tight for living quarters (one common area even though 4 BR….only two baths)…..perfect for one couple, or two…. Nice pool…makes a difference when coming off a hot day at the beach just a 3 minute stroll away. WILL RENT THIS HOME AGAIN!!!!!

The home was just the right size for our group and the amenities met all of our needs. We used the heated pool daily for which it got plenty of sun and shade. We had a perfect week away. Yet the best came at the time our departure and our car died. AAA kept us waiting 2 hours. We think our hero was Ferdinand? From American Rentals who drove back to his office- brought his pickup and got us going!!! He was amazing and I hope someone tells his boss.

Great week in captiva, house is close to beach easy to walk. House needs some updates, its showing age. Not bad but still. Pool heater didnt work either and patio area is kinda grimy. House has nice space and nice kitchen.

The house, pool, and location was fantastic. Very close to beach, bayside, restaurants and local shopping, walking distance. The house and property was very clean and we had plenty of room. The manager, Albert was extremely helpful and provided great customer service. We were expecting a TV in the queen room and when we arrived, there was not one. We called Albert and he was there the next day with a TV and a smile. He also brought along some needed beach chairs even though the property does not supply them. The kitchen was very well stocked with plenty of pots and pans and cooking utensils. The pool area was awesome and having a bathroom by the pool area was very convenient along with the outdoor shower, which was huge. We would definitely recommend this house and cake from the Bubble Room is a must.

I almost hesitate to give this home the 5 stars it deserves, for fear it’ll be booked next time. But that wouldn’t be fair. It’s the warm private pool, the lush landscaping, the old Florida vibe of the lane, and the short walk to the beach that bring us back. Spotless, too, and everything works. American Realty is also easy to work with. We love it here.
