Hotel Cosmopol

Location, the view was great and liked the balcony and on-site restaurant.

Nice location, not far from the beach, restaurants and bars. Lovely room with balcony (in the shade on the afternoon fortunately).

Swimming pool was empty

Fairly good location by the beach, but a bit a walk to the center of town. If you'd like to travel back in time to the 80s and get a feeling for how hotels were in the Soviet Union, then this is your choice.

This hotel is a bit of a comical experience, as it is really a time travel capsule to the ambience and feel of a hotel in the Soviet Union in the 80s (I did stay at a hotel in then-Leningrad in 1986 and got a strong sense of deja vu). The scratched wooden reception desk with lots of two-ring paper binders in shelves behind it; the creaky double-door elevator (one hinged and the other sliding); the fluorescent-light corridors; the mechanical door locks with huge keys and a weight attached to them; the spartan room that reminds one of a university dormitory many decades ago. The breakfast saloon where a big group of guests assembles outside at 8:00 in the morning as they open the doors and everybody scrambles inside to find a table, draped with a violet table-cloth. The primitive buffet that again reminds one of a dormitory. Etc., etc. This is quite an experience and as such might even be appealing to some travelers, as long as they approach it with an open mind.
