Three-star hotel with five-star service!
Although located 5 km from the Nakasendo Trail, this hotel more than makes up for the distance!
Tucked away in the mountains, albeit alongside a busy road, this place offers beautiful rooms, incredible food, wonderful onsen facilities, and exceptional value for your hard-earned money.
The service was prompt, the staff were friendly, helpful and always accommodating, and the room was elegant, spacious and beautifully appointed.
And the food… well, where do I begin? The variety and quality were simply outstanding! From regional specialities and everyday Japanese fare to Chinese dishes and a selection of European favourites, there was something for everyone.
The selection of sake, beer and other drinks was equally impressive, with more varieties than I cared to count. Everything was beautifully presented and absolutely impeccable.
A wonderful experience that far exceeded my expectations.
It's a little out of the way, but worth it!

The room was fantastic, and the hot springs were a highlight, especially since it was my mom's first time at a traditional Japanese bathhouse. The dinner and breakfast buffets had just about everything you could imagine, with a wide variety of cuisines, and the lobby snacks and drinks were a nice touch. The staff were used to working with international guests.
Getting there was harder than expected. Transportation from the train station was difficult, and there wasn't a clear pickup option. There's also no way to reach the Nakasendo trail without a car, so I'd recommend driving instead of relying on a taxi or shuttle. Bring a translation app to make communication easier.

I have extensive experience of hotels and ryokan all over Japan. I’m sorry to that value for money was a very significant issue.
Even with my “Genius” discount we felt we paid a five star plus price for a 3 to 3.5 star experience
