The Winchester Hotel and Spa

Great location, friendly staff, good breakfast, clean.

Staff were very welcoming, food in the restaurant was excellent, spa facilities were very good, our room was a decent size with great decor and shower. Note any daytime car parking has to be paid on arrival and after 8am, as.the car park is council owned. A very enjoyable visit

See note re paid parking

Wow , what a real luxurious treat , lovely hotel and spa facilities. Friendly staff and lovely surroundings. Great breakfast and bar so much choice . Lovely bed and bathroom so clean . 10 min pleasant walk into centre would definitely return. Convenient paid parking. Great late check out time

Nothing

We liked the general decor of the hotel, the staff were pleasant, a nice restaurant, even though we had to move our booking and the spa facilities were good.

We stayed at The Winchester Hotel & Spa for two nights (25th Sept) for our 22nd Wedding Anniversary. Overall, we liked the hotel & enjoyed the spa facilities, but unfortunately several issues left us feeling disappointed & took the shine off what should have been a special weekend. Firstly, the hotel advertises onsite parking on Booking.com, which is technically correct, but both the hotel car park & the adjacent NCP car park are chargeable. Having paid over £414 for a two-night stay, I feel that complimentary parking should be included at a 4-star hotel! Upon arriving at our room, we found a "Toast to You" card waiting for us. At first, we thought this was a lovely touch, but it was actually addressed to a completely different couple celebrating their 1st Anniversary rather than our 22nd Anniversary. A small mistake but it immediately made the stay feel less personal. Prior to our arrival, I had requested flowers in the room for my wife. I believed this had been accommodated following email correspondence, it later became apparent that the email was simply asking for my arrival time & no communication had been made regarding the flowers. As a result, the surprise never happened. Another issue was the temperature throughout the hotel. The corridors & our room were uncomfortably warm. Although the room had air conditioning, it did not appear to be functioning properly. We could adjust the target temperature but were unable to control the fan speed, making it difficult to cool the room. We reported this to reception on checking out. We had also booked a meal at Alfred's Restaurant on the Friday evening to celebrate our anniversary. However, we were informed that due to an event at a sister hotel, the kitchen staff were occupied & only bar food was available. Both bathroom taps also developed a fault. I booked this for our 22nd Anniversary & wanted a special stay.
