Historic , clean and good location
Staff can not understand me. Reception can not even help to book an 8 seater to take us to kyoto. We had to do ourselves.

Located at uphill, for senior it is a little hard to walk around

Exceptionally beautiful building oozing Taisho / Edwardian futures, charm, and details, and full of history — many famous guests over the years. For example, Albert Einstein stayed here and they still have the piano he played in a lounge! Worth it for the architecture and interiors alone if that’s your thing. Impeccable full-service staff. Extremely large and comfortable room. Excellent amenities in room including some of the most comfortable pajamas I’ve ever slept in. Free shuttle into Nara town. Walkable / close to main Nara park temples. Beautiful views from our window. Excellent bar.
Really nothing we did not like. A few strange or less-excellent points: It did have a strangely musty smell in the lobby, lounges, and hallways, though not in the guest rooms. The hallways past the public areas were strangely cavernous and empty — no art on the walls, etc. No screens on the windows, such that our room had a note that said “Don’t open the windows; your room will fill with insects.” We would have loved to listen to the cicadas and feel the fresh air — just put screens on the windows!

the rules were too strict regarding the breakfast timing, also the carpet smelled like dust.
