The cottage was a good size for a family of four. With the fireplace on, it was quite warm and toasty inside during winter (although without it is where the problem was). The kitchen was well-stocked with cutlery, cookware, stove and oven, but note that washing up and taking out your own trash is required. There are wild kangaroos all around the compound and they come right up to the bushes near the cottage. It’s cool but also pretty scary for young kids as they’re larger than the kids themselves! Finally, the place seems to be run by a nice family (Papa Kai and older girl Victoria are the two names I caught! There’s also Mama and younger brother) who came by to give us more kindling sticks and fire starters, and show us how to start a fire after we blew out most of ours. And to offer more blankets. They salvaged our stay!
The bathroom was completely unheated, which made it freezing cold at night and in the mornings, highly unpleasant for adults, let alone young children / infants to take a bath. The shower’s water temperature was finicky and didn’t always give hot water at first. Inside the cottage/ cabin, the main source of heat for the entire place (without starting a fire) was just one air-conditioner, which was insufficient in winter. The floorboards got dirty quite quickly and we ended up wearing our sandals indoors after a day or so. The cookware is not cleaned by the cottage staff after your stay — it’s all cleaned by the previous users only. The washing does add up, especially if you cook. There’s a BBQ grill outside which we did not use.
