Sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtetes und gut ausgestattetes Apartment mit unglaublich bequemen Betten. Die Terrasse ist herrlich zum Tiere beobachten. Wir haben ganz in der Nähe 2 Koalas und viele Kängurus gesehen. Einmalig! Wir können die Unterkunft sehr empfehlen.

We absolutely loved Kangaroo Island! And Flour Cask Bay Retreat is the perfect accommodation from which to experience the island (if it is serenity and wild life you are looking for). A few tips, you need a car to get around Kangaroo Island. We booked a three night stay and in hindsight that is the absolute minimum you need to see the main attractions (eg sea lions at Seal Bay, seals at Admirals Arch, Platypus Walk we, could not fit in seeing all those in one day). And if you bring your own car, be sure to book the ferry well in advance. Talking about cars, the owner, John, phoned to 'warn' us about the driveway to the accommodation. Very thoughtful. In our case, the driveway was not an issue at all, we drive a Subaru Forester. I'd say most cars would not have a problem on the driveway. We just drove slowly, because it's a bit rubbly and because of that we got to see loads of kangaroos in the fields and bush along the driveway. Our thought was, if we book somewhere a bit more 'remote' (30 minutes from the ferry) we will see more wildlife - and it paid off - John also spotted a koala low in the tree next to the accommodation - how lucky were we! Another time saving tip, if you do book at Flour Cask Bay Retreat and you come from the mainland, bring some supplies with you (there are supermarkets on the island of course). The accommodation has a full sized fridge and stove and everything you need to cook and eat (from outside SA, don't bring in fruit and veg). Now about the accommodation, I thought it was incredibly good value. And it was very clean (also important). There's a veranda out the back with garden view and from the veranda out front we saw some kangaroos closer up when John was feeding them some pallets at dusk. Quite shy from seeing us, but that is the way it should be with wildlife. These were not pet kangaroos. Nor was the koala we saw a pet koala - so no guarantees you'll see one.

The location was everything we could have wanted - quiet, teeming with wildlife and superb views. Our host was very helpful and full of information about the local flora and fauna, as well as special places to visit that weren't in the guide books. We had delightful close-up encounters with kangaroos, numerous birds, and a friendly goanna!
We were warned about the state of the unmade road, but as it is constantly visited by kangaroos and other wildlife, it's essential to drive slowly, so we accepted the slight discomfort. It's best to have good tyres and moderate offroad driving skills! The solar heating makes shower temperatures a little unpredictable, but we didn't mind.

Being out in the countryside was so peaceful. The views are beautiful.
It is beautiful to have kangaroos so close.
The nearby Thai restaurant is unique and fun.
