The Countryman Inn

The team there were excellent and very helpful. Our room was all ready and made to look extremely inviting. The shower operation was perfect and overall we were most impressed. Our first meal could not have been better, the food options and presentation were really good. Our first breakfast too was quite amazing for the Full English! We very much enjoyed the Carvery too and welcomed the temperature at which a range of drinks was served. The atmosphere and table service made for a thoroughly pleasant evening for both nights.

24 hours before our 2 night stay we received an email informing us that a Continental breakfast would begin on 2.11.26. It did not say that all other options were off the choice for breakfast. We learned from this email that bacon and sausages would be available. In the event it was clear that the single member of staff was being asked to do far too much to cover for this now sudden change of service. Coffee was cold ( but replaced), the now self service area for coffee and fruit juice, fruit salad and cheese offering was totally inadequate to cope with the guests using it. Sausages were not provided and the bacon had to be constantly topped up by the one member of staff who amazingly kept a cheerful and friendly approach to things. To be honest such was the feeling of being let down we were at a loss as to how different our experience this morning was to the previous two days. Hence instead of the higher ratings we had in mind prior to breakfast today, the combination of short notice and the inadequate preparation by those setting the policy has considerably reduced our rating. In no way can the staff, trying their level best to cope with the imposed changes, be blamed.

Well appointed rooms. Wonderfully helpful staff. Very good food. Comfy surroundings.

Location is very difficult to reach if you don't have a car. Local buses are infrequent and it's very difficult to get a taxi or Uber as there are only a few drivers locally. We had to wait 45 min for the bus (no taxi or Uber available) when we arrived at 5pm at wool station, and we had to walk down an unlit road to reach the property. Perhaps some motion activated lighting would help

Very dog friendly and good sized room/bathroom.

Paint work and decor a bit tired around the windows and there was a hole in the wall. Although most of the room was clean it was dusty in corners and beside the bed. It was incredibly hot in the bathroom - no ventilation and hard to have bedroom windows open because of the noise from the garden area until closing time.
