The view from our room and balcony was outstanding. We were situated high above the lake and could see the whole mountain range on the other side, as well as much of the lake itself.
The garden and grounds were beautiful, and the internal decor was remarkable - richly ornamented with high quality materials and entirely in keeping with the 19th century Victorian origins of the hotel without being at all heavy and gloomy as many such interiors are. (Don't go here looking for modern design)
The public areas and dining terrace overlooking the lake were delightful.
The staff were without exception attentive, cheery and very pleasant.
We had no air-conditioning in the room, and the weather was hot. But that seemed in a way appropriate for the style of the hotel and was acceptable.
There was a small problem with shortage of staff for one meal, but all those present worked extremely hard to compensate and were suitably apologetic.
The hotel is a long way above Montreux, but there is a mountain railway station nearby if the drive is a bit arduous.

This is the nicest hotel I’ve ever had the chance to stay
Can be hard to get to the main part of Montreux. That said, at times it was lovely to be removed from the fray and in such a lovely location

The view was exceptional
There was no air conditioning and the beds were made with heavy feather duvets which made sleeping very uncomfortable! We booked an expensive room with balcony & lakeview so expected at least a kettle or coffee maker & a safe but none available.
