Hotel du Rempart

A fabulous looking place perched on a hill with fabulous views and a lovely area to sit out and watch the sunset. Easy (free) parking close by. Staff were all very helpful, attentive, and friendly and the food (evening meal) was very good. We didn’t have breakfast there. The wine recommendation was excellent - a really good bottle of Sancerre (of course!) An odd mix of styles and eras perhaps - a modern sports bar alongside a lovely more classic wine bar and bedrooms which in some areas haven’t been touched for years. All very clean and we had a super comfy bed so no complaints but the bathroom was stuck back in times gone by! Maybe a little investment in the rooms and bathrooms wouldn’t go amiss but it did not spoil our stay and was even perhaps some of the charm!

It’s not that we didn’t ins it but the room and bathroom could do with a refresh and an upgrade.

Excellent restaurant facilities and ideal location

An older hotel with plenty of character. Staff were helpful and friendly. Room was rather spartan/tired but warm and the bed was comfortable. View from the room over the surrounding vineyards was spectacular. Shower had plenty of hot water but shower head had to be held by hand which we found awkward. Breakfast was typical French style and ok. Restaurant in the evening was very good with a reasonable choice and really excellent food (we ate there both nights of our stay). Parking was on the road just up from the hotel and was free. We would happily stay there again when visiting Sancerre.

The terrace of the hotel provided a very pleasant outdoor dining ambience. The host and staff did their best to provide a good service.

The location of the double room was very prone to noise from the traffic as it faced a 3-cornered junction. The bed was very bad for the back. All in all, we didn't have much rest for the night.
