The B and B was easy to find on the main road from Valognes. The room was very large indeed and comfortable with more than the required facilities including a kitchenette and all necessary items for self-catering. Mme Varette and her husband were charming and helpful re local amenities. Breakfast was good and in a very elegant room. The whole building was quiet and parking outside in the main road safe and convenient. This is an ideal spot to stay over en route from or to Cherbourg for example. It is an ideal base for visiting the western areas of the D Day Landing beaches and sites. These are just a few miles to the east on the coast.
St Floxel is very quiet indeed and there seemed to be no available restaurants possibly as it was nearing the end of the holiday season. However Valogne is only 4 miles away and there are two goods supermarkets available so self-catering is a good option.

The fact that we could store our motorcycles under cover although access was difficult.
The property is on several levels so there are a lot of stairs depending on which room you are allocated. My room was off the dining room. It was spacious but not particularly well appointed and I was kept awake most of the night by the half hourly chiming of grandfather clock in the dining room.
My room had a kettle, fridge, microwave, cutlery and crockery but there was no tea or coffee makings.
The room was not particularly well maintained with a number of things broken which could easily be repaired.
The proprietor was friendly enough but had no English and I don’t speak French so communication was difficult.
