I absolutely loved this place. My room was a sensationally beautiful historic room, full of character and atmosphere, and I couldn’t believe how lucky I was to have found somewhere so gorgeous on the Camino. The whole property had such a wonderful atmosphere, and the café/restaurant was stunning, with beautiful music and a gorgeous setting. After a long day of walking, sitting there and having scallops was genuinely magical. Everything was clean and beautifully presented, and the value for money was exceptional. I would highly recommend it, especially to anyone walking the Camino.
The only real downside was that the bathroom was shared and I had to walk through two dormitory areas to get to it. This could be quite awkward, particularly at night or if you needed to walk through in a towel. It was a shame because the room itself was so beautiful and special. I also couldn’t get the coffee machine to work, but that was a very minor issue.

Mercadorio hotel is a traditional construction resembling a historical building in a peaceful and quiet location. It has a restaurant serving good food reasonably priced. The costarican young waitress in the restaurant was very polite, professional and friendly. Also the chef, who also seems to be the manager, was very helpful offering extremely fast on-site laundry service.
We were shocked when we arrived to checkin as the staff seemed annoyed by us peregrinos and their rude interactions. Rather than a welcome, I received a complaint for not checking in before arriving despite never receiving a message from the hotel with instructions to do that. After completing the check in using their QR code, we had to wait at least half hour to be guided to our room as they were too busy. In the meantime, we had the opportunity to observe the older spanish lady in the staff be super rude to a British tourist that was inquiring why her taxi hadn't arrived after waiting for 2 hours trying -apparently somebody in her party seemed to be suffering a heat stroke-. Since neither spoke a second language, I volunteered to translate. The spanish lady on staff told me that the taxi driver had an accident and wouldn't come. The British lady was shocked and asked what was she going to do, next, I was too embarrassed to let the British lady know that the spanish staff had said that she didn't care and it wasn't her problem. It really surprises me, and makes me sad to see locals mistreating tourists that support their businesses and makes me wonder, if they hate tourists so much, why are they in the hospitality business.
