Many bad reviews mention having to pay on arrival even after booking online. I want to clarify that this is normal in Sri Lanka—Booking.com sometimes does not process the payment, and the money never leaves your account. I experienced the same at other hostels as well.
This place is very affordable, well located in the city center, and the host is extremely kind. I stayed 4 nights and felt comfortable. It’s a low-budget hostel, so don’t expect luxury, but for budget travelers it’s a great choice. I recommend it

The place is an actual house owned by a lovely and very kind Sri Lankan lady. I really enjoyed my stay, as it offers a more unique experience compared to the very touristy hostels and hotels in Ella. She even provided tea or coffee and snacks in the afternoon (free of charge), and if you wish, she can also prepare meals and breakfast for an additional fee. This is definitely worth it as the food is excellent and honestly much cheaper than any restaurant you’ll find around the city. I would definitely recommend this place if you want to enjoy a different experience from the usual options.

It was situated in a great location just in front of the railway station. Hike from there, you are at Ella Rock and 9 Arch Bridge. Super nice people and super clean. Good for budget.
