The room and private Japanese wet bath. Bath so warm and beautiful. Room was excellent and very clean and traditional ryokan but I had beds. Beds were very comfortable.Staff was incredibly helpful. Breakfast was delicious as traditional Japanese breakfast.
Location was a little far for a walk uphill with luggage . Cute neighborhood so I still felt safe and no issue without luggage. But with luggage I’d take a cab from train station.

Great location! It is out of the crowds in Gion so you can still feel some tranquility, but within short walking distance to all the attractions in Gion.
The place is quiet, cleaned comfortable and feels looks even though it is minimalistic. Decorations are very tasteful. The staff are very kind and helpful. The bath was perfect for after a day full of walking.

Very central location - which is both good and bad. Gion is overwhelmed with tourists, but early mornings were beautiful. And Chion-in temple and its garden seemed to be overlooked (and were great, and within walking distance).
Seemed a little under-staffed. Everyone was very nice, but it’s not cheap, so I would have expected a higher level of service, like tea served in your room on arrival. Also, breakfasts were exceedingly simple compared to what we got elsewhere in Japan for the same price stay, and served in a common dining area as opposed to in-room. Maybe it’s just that everything in Gion costs more.
