Amazing!

This place is amazing! Service was impeccable. The hosts were very friendly and helpful in recommending restaurants and making reservations. Room was comfortable and quiet. Location was perfect for exploring Higashiyama. Breakfasts exceeded expectations! We were served different protein courses each day (fish, beef, egg/chicken). Loved the bar selections and service too. Highly recommend Ishibekoji Muan

The traditional Japanese ryoken experience with modern comforts

This place is INCREDIBLE! I have no other words for it other than the most pleasant stay I could ever imagine having at a traditional Japanese ryoken. We opted for daily traditional kaseki breakfasts that were served in our room with tea and coffee, would sit at the bar and chat with the staff and sample their great Japanese whiskey collection, enjoyed our beautiful spa-like bathroom with private onsen, heated floors, temperature controlled shower area, and beds so comfy, you couldn't help but fall asleep as soon as your head hit the pillow. The staff were incredibly amazing and very quick to handle any needs we had—and they were SO friendly! We had several great and long conversations with them that they felt like friends more than hotel staff. The location was great too because you were a short walk to several temples, popular tourist sites and great food but was secluded enough that you felt like you could relax and detox from the chaos of other large cities in Japan. This was one of the best experiences during our 12-day stay in Japan. I highly highly recommend.

I loved everything about our stay and have absolutely zero complaints with it, other than I wish we could've stayed for even longer. We stayed for 5 days and I would've moved in if I could, it was that amazing.

The best Ryokan in Kyoto by far & lovely staff!

This is the best Ryokan to stay in Kyoto, facilities are unmatched. Aesop products and Dyson hairdryer. The authentic Japanese style room downstairs with Futon beds is very comfortable but we also stayed in rooms upstairs. We ordered their breakfast every morning & it was perfectly balanced and our favourite way to start our day. They even had water temperature settings, the bath is very large and fantastic, also automatic temperature regulated so you can feel warm in the bath as long as you like. Beds & futons were comfortable. Sae Sumii made our stay very comfortable and is a lovely staff member. Also it is right in the middle of Gion so you can explore the district and has amazing dinner places in authentic small restaurants (some need to be booked in advance).

Amazing! Would definitely recommend.

Stunning traditional Japanese Ryokan. Could not fault this place at all. Perfect for couples. Nice and quiet. Clean. We booked breakfasts which consisted of traditional japense fish and rice, meat options were available.

Wonderful stay

Sae was very nice and helpful. We felt very comfortable and enjoyed her company. Showed us around and even recommended some places to eat and visit. The perfect place to experience a Ryokan and Kyoto for first time visitors. The breakfast was delicious too.

Beautiful ryokan in a fantastic location.

Staff efficient and very friendly. Every request was catered for with a smile. The room and its facilities, especially the wet room, were outstanding.

Exceptional

Amazing place in an historic neighborhood. Staff couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. Modern amenities with historical charm. We sat at Japanese tables and drank tea from a classy pot while having a tub that heated itself. I don't care how many hotels you've stayed in before, this is one you will never forget.

That I didn't have more time to stay.

It provided us with a quiet and exceptionally clean place to retreat to after a hectic touristy day.

The place was exceptionally clean. We wanted a ryokan experience in Gion and the location was perfect. Staff was very nice. Although it was in the heart of Gion, it was very quiet.

We were a little disappointed that there was little natural light but overall it was a great experience.

Location was great. Staff was very kind and helpful. We opted in for their breakfast for one of the mornings and it was delicious and a good value. We got a great restaurant recommendation from them and the room itself was very nice.

The best area in Tokyo, nice and very small hotel with kind staff and comfortable rooms.

The area is absolutely the nicest in Kyoto - it’s magical… with wooden houses and trees, stone streets and lanterns. Super quiet and surrounded by woods and temples. It’s perfect. The property is very small, no services, just 3 rooms but the staff is very nice and the rooms comfortable.

There’s no breakfast and the rooms are a bit dark. There is no common area, nothing but reception and the rooms.

If you want to feel old Japan, I recommend staying at this ryokan Ishibekoji Muan, along with old Kyoto you will be thrown into the past, into the books and movies you have read and watched about Japan in past centuries. The service is perfect. On a quiet street but at the same time close to all sights. Extremely comfortable, luxurious and cozy ryokan.

An authentic yet modern Ryokan located in the heart of Gion. A must stay in Kyoto!

This Ryokan is located on a quiet side street in Gion, Kyoto but not far from all the sights Gion has to offer. The hotel was very clean, well appointed and our room was a great size. The manager of the hotel was polite and caring and even offered us some tea on arrival while we checked-in. Overall, we had a great stay at Ishibekoji Muan and would recommend it to our friends and family.

Everything was amazing - I can't think of anything that could be improved with our stay.

A very refined accommodation where one could begin an imaginary journey to the past

The location is among the historical houses, and close to everything and many places of interest by walking. It has only three rooms but meticulously maintained. One felt really at home in a traditional Japanese setting. The staff was exceptionally friendly, helpful and spoke perfect English.

Not enough natural light for the room we stayed. The legless chairs required some time to get use to them. We wished that it served at least a warm breakfast given its small and cozy establishment.

Character, charm and comfort? Stay here.

Charming hosts, delightful small-scale hotel with all you could need for a stay in Kyoto. Full of character: tatami, futons, Japanese style table and seating. Glorious wooden bath. I would live here if I could. Loved it. Jungmi and Jim were both superb, attending to our every request and available to message for tips during our visit. Thanks once again to them.

There is nothing not to like here. There are steps up to the home if you have mobility issues but that is all.
