I stayed for one night while travelling alone and looking for a good night's sleep after a long day of fell walking. The receptionist was welcoming and had moved me to a ground-floor room, which I appreciated as my legs were rather tired and it meant I didn't have to tackle the stairs. Breakfast was enjoyable, and the poached eggs I ordered at 9:45am were very nice. However, I was surprised to see guests arriving just after 10:00am being told the kitchen had closed and that only cereal and toast from the buffet were available. The cut-off seemed rather abrupt. Overall, the hotel was adequate for a one-night stay and served my needs, but a few improvements to comfort, maintenance and temperature control would significantly enhance the guest experience.
The hotel felt very quiet during my stay. Unfortunately, the mattress in Room 26 was extremely uncomfortable, and I could feel the springs through it. A replacement mattress, or even a decent mattress topper, would make a significant difference to guest comfort. The hotel was also extremely warm throughout my stay. Turning the heating down a notch would improve comfort and be more environmentally friendly. In addition, the standing lamp in my room was broken. When I tried to use it, I noticed it was covered in dust and grime, so some attention to maintenance and housekeeping would be beneficial.
