Ok, trying to focus on the positives, good hot powerful shower. Had a fridge in the room. On checkout had a nice conversation with the couple running it this year, who also make the oil. We received a sample, which was nice. Breakfast was ok, although a fair few notches from the best we have had in Puglia.
Location wise, it was peaceful and fairly easy to find, but I wish we had, in hindsight, stayed in or near Trani, which is a far more interesting and beautiful town than Canosa.
It is shabby and disappointing, they have changed the drive entrance so you don't get the wow factor of the side with the stairs going up, which sadly is starting to get a bit delapidated anyway. The pool was deep in the middle with a small ledge around, not ideal for my 5 year old although she managed ok, what I didn't like was that it had a very strong chemical taste in the water and loads of grit on the paving immediately around the pool which meant dirty feet as soon as you got out. The loungers looked tired too.
We didn't eat at the restaurant as it had one set menu and we have children with polar opposite taste, meaning we need more choice.
The room was huge but poorly executed, creaky wooden mezzanine, nowhere to sit other than the beds, bathroom as far as poss from the main bed (I nearly took a tumble down the stone steps at 3am, couldn't sleep as bed was clunky and air con rattling, along with too much light emitted from air con units). The staff were friendly but not always easy to locate and the towels didn't arrive until 6pm when we had already given up and showered using the one available in the room as we wanted to experience Trani by sunset. I personally wouldn't recommend this place until a lot more care and consideration has gone into it, the pictures are misleading and it has gone downhill (if it ever was uphill...!?). Very sad as it has so much potential.
