Southern Comfort sits on a quiet dead-end canal in Holmes Beach with a private dock and direct access to the Intracoastal — drop a boat in behind the house and you're fishing the flats or running out toward the Gulf in minutes. It's the kind of backyard most island rentals only wish they had.
Mornings start on the water and end at the pool. Take the boat out, fish or explore the bay, then come back and cool off in the private heated pool. Evenings are for grilling poolside while the light goes long over the canal. When you'd rather hit the sand, park the car, walk to the beach or the bayside, and use the free trolley for everywhere else on the island.
The home is a true 4-bedroom, 3-bath with two separate living areas, so a full family or two couples aren't on top of each other. The king master has its own bathroom and opens straight to the pool and lanai. A second bedroom has a queen, a third has a twin, and the fourth is a bunk room with a full bed on the bottom and a twin on top — good for kids or extra guests. The kitchen is fully equipped to cook real meals, not just reheat takeout.
Here's the part to book early for: as of 2026, Southern Comfort was taken down to the studs and completely rebuilt — same layout and bed setup you see here, with an all-new interior and brand-new furniture throughout. Updated photos will be added as soon as the home is finished and styled; what you're seeing now is the prior configuration.
A note on the location and the stay: this is a canal/bay-side home on a residential dead-end, so the Gulf beach is a walk that is eight houses away at the end of the road. The tradeoff is a quiet street, your own dock, and trolley stops a short walk away. It's also a one-month-minimum rental, which makes it ideal for snowbirds, long family stays, and boaters who want to settle in rather than rush a week.
You are vacationing in a residential area, please be a good neighbor by keeping the noise to a respectful level during the day and night. Excessive and unreasonable noise can deprive neighbors of the peaceful enjoyment of their private property. Quiet hours are observed from 10 PM to 7 AM.
Southern is a one month minimum rental.

Perfect position on Anna Maria with trolley stop at the end of the street and the gulf beach only a few steps further. Lovely villa and boat dock but with issues. The tiles around the pool are a major hazard and one which no one seems to want to resolve. We cut ourselves on the tiles and the ladder getting out is loose. Emails went ignored. Kitchen and living area recently refurbished and a great space. Bedrooms good too with comfy beds. Bathrooms ok. Terrible smell from the kitchen and we found a bucket under the sink with stale water in it after being there a week. Simple fix but was ignored. Some lights and lamps didn't work when we got there, resolved quickly but the pool area left a bad taste as we asked before we arrived if this hazard would be sorted. Wouldn't hesitate to book this home but only if the management company did their bit.

This was the second time we stayed at Southern Comfort. Overall the house is wonderful. Very accommodating and all one level as one of the guests has mobility concerns. Loved the kitchen and 2 different living areas. Bedrooms were comfortable and plenty of bathrooms. The canal was awesome for fishing, kayaking, and launching the stand up paddle board. We saw manatees daily! We rented a golf cart and was able to find parking at the local beach access easily. However, the exterior REALLY needs to be cleaned up. The pool area is grimey and there are broken tiles. It desperately is in need of replacement furniture. A good pressure washing would be helpful along the patio. Trash was all over the left side of the house and housekeeping must not be attentive to the outside as some was also in the back yard. Back yard has random hoses and broken pool cover that is unsightly. Also, at night time the pool is very hard to use as the bugs are relentless.

Pool was not clean when we arrived and had broken tiles. House needs a deep clean. There were cob webs in windows and dried food on cabinets that we wiped down when we arrived. Couch has a smell to it and needs to be replaced. Rugs are dirty and matted. They also need to be replaced. The kitchen is updated and well stocked with pots, pans, utensils, and etc. The beds were clean and comfortable.
