Location was everything, walked out the door and got on the chair lift.
This is an older building, and although clean it could use small upgrades

Was initially hesitant to book because it looks quite remote and is a far walk to anywhere from Google map street view (they were mostly non-winter images). Marches House is located just next to Kokusai area where Evergreen ski school is. There is a path through its private carpark leading straight to the ski school meeting point, albeit it is quite a steep climb up. Appreciate the snacks (pudding, jelly, coffee, etc) in the lobby area, which helps give quick energy boost upon return from full day skiing. Love the amenities laid out in the lobby area, allowing us to have daily face mask treatments! We had the Japanese style room with en-suite bathroom which was comfortable, though I prefer to use the 24 hours public bath. Breakfast (additional cost) was nice, staff were friendly. There’s also a common room where we could rest before checking in / after checking out. Taxi from train station (and vice versa) were reimbursed/voucher provided. And not forgetting to mention Tony-san’s Japanese-style massage (separate cost) - should have booked more sessions to loosen my stiff back rather than only once on the last day. Overall, recommended and would stay here again for visits to Happo-One.
While it is near to Kokusai ski area (last hotel on that uphill stretch of road), it is relatively further to the restaurant area - nearest would be at Mominoki Hotel, which is 10-15 mins walk away (still ok, but limited food choices), or a 1+km walk to The Happo area (uphill walk back). Really depends on individual preferences, i.e., proximity to slopes vs eateriesm; we prioritize the former so ok with us; walk to eateries still manageable.

We just had room only. It was sufficient. There was my husband, my 16 yr old and me. We had a room with 4 single beds and the smallest bathroom ever...the toilet was on an angle. The staff were friendly, we were a 4 minute walk from the slope.
I thought it was expensive for what it was. We had friends staying in town only a 5 minute walk from a lift and they were paying $1,000 less than us and we all booked around the same time. This looked slightly better on the photos then in real life. It looked a little bit like "back packers" accommodation. Also, it's at the top of a very steep hill, which was sometimes very icy and we had to walk into town every night for dinner.
