I had a wonderful time at the TUI BLUE Makarska and in Igrane. The hotel is clean and well kept and run by a friendly and helpful team. My room was spacious, very clean and had breathtaking sea view (as booked). The bed is very comfortable and the air conditioning allows for a pleasant sleeping temperature. I also appreciated the fridge in the room. The food is good and I especially liked that local food was available at both breakfast and dinner. The cocktail I enjoyed on the terrace was delicious and reasonably priced. The views from the restaurant and the terrace are stunning. One morning we even saw a dolphin breaching the smooth surface of the sea from our tables on the restaurant terrace. Right by the hotel is a small but absolutely BEAUTIFUL public pebble beach with crystal clear water. It is mainly but not exclusively used by hotel guests. All beaches in Croatia are public by law and the beach chair and sun umbrella rental is not part of the hotel and costs extra, but if wanted it is easy to bypass the extra cost by bringing a beach matt and lounging in the shadow of the pine trees or using one of the many free sunbeds on the grounds of the hotel and just walk downstairs to the beach for a swim in the sea. As a someone who LOVES swimming in the sea I cannot say anything about the hotel pools as I did not use them, but the whole area around the infinity pool is really nice and provides a very relaxed atmosphere. Neither beach, nor pool nor the hotel itself felt overcrowded. I also loved that the hotel is only steps away from the village promenade which is lovely for an evening stroll. For people not familiar with the area it is worth noting that the hotel is in Igrane which is a lovely village and not in the very lively party town Makarska itself. The village is busy during the season with lots of restaurants and cafes, but it is not a party place. I am very sure that this was not my last stay at the TUI BLUE in Igrane. I really loved it.

I have only some small things. I get that the style of the hotel is all about clean lines and understated design, but some artwork in the room - fitting the colour scheme - would be nice. The empty white walls make the room look more sparse than it actually is. I wished the dinner time would go to 9.30pm at least to allow full use of the lovely evening sun at the beach before getting ready for dinner. The restaurants in the village are packed past 9pm for exactly that reason and late dinner is quite normal in Southern Europe. While everything at the buffet was constantly refilled that stopped towards the end of dinner time which is fine and avoids too much waste, but it would be nice if someone could at least check on the dessert bar for example and keep it clean and tidy. I went late for dinner on my last night and at 8.45pm the area looked pretty destroyed and not appetising anymore, which is a pity because the desserts themselves were delicious.

Breakfast was good. Rooms are good size and balcony was very big overlooking the sea. All staff were very accommodating from cleaners, reception and bar.

The whole hotel is very tired and needs a good makeover to maintain its 4 star accreditation. We generally used the main pool area which didnt look like it was cleaned from one day to the next. Lots of bird muck around the pool and the surrounding glass balustrade wasnt clean the whole time of our stay. Both pool bars shut 90 minutes early on one day meaning we had to use the inside bar for refreshments, not ideal. Evening meals were not great, good variety but all hot food was merely warm.
