We went from staying in a 5 star resort to Mayoong Hostel and somehow still felt like we were staying in luxury 😂 The rooms are lovely, really clean and comfortable. We stayed in the deluxe bungalows and they were perfect. The shower is especially nice and almost makes you feel like you’re showering outside in the jungle.
The location is a really good mix of lively and peaceful. Moalboal is a busy little seaside town with plenty going on, but Mayoong is just far enough out of the main hustle and bustle that you can actually relax. There are trees behind the hostel so you can hear the birds and crickets, but you’re still really close to loads of lovely bars and restaurants and everything you need.
The staff are all really polite and attentive and always happy to help. The breakfast bowls are really tasty and a good portion, and the iced coffee is pretty good too.
There’s so much to do in Moalboal. The sardine run is absolutely phenomenal for scuba diving or snorkelling, and we spotted a few turtles while we were out there too. Canyoneering is great fun as well. There are loads of dive centres in town, but we went with Amigos Dive Center and would definitely recommend them.
Such a lovely place to stay and amazing value for money. Would 100% stay here again!

The room was very clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. It completely matched the photos and the description of the accommodation.
The hostel is located close to the beach and restaurants/cafés. You can walk to the place where snorkeling (turtle, sardines watching) is possible.
It's far from the airport. You need about 3,5 hours in a car to reach there (the hostel can arrange a taxi if you want, but you will pay around 3200 PhPs for transportation).

The room was aesthetically pleasing and nice with a lovely ensuite. Really comfortable bed.
We got our laundry done and dried for an additional price which was good.
Location is excellent, it’s walking distance to everything!
The common area was quiet and relaxing and they had lots of tourist info and tour packages info.
They had board games in the common area.
We paid around $399aud for 3 nights which is considered expensive in the Philippines but we didn’t feel it was value for money in comparison to other places. It didn’t have the facilities of a hostel such as a general cooking area for guests.
I was charged on 3 occasions to get 40mls of milk each time to add to my tea in our room. There was a kettle and teabags in the room. On the 3rd night out of curiosity, I asked her “are guests allowed to keep food and drink in their reception area fridge here?” She replied “yes but we close this kitchen at 10pm.” If we were informed on arrival we could use the fridge, I would have bought my own milk/supplies.
There was no fridge in the private rooms also.
I didn’t feel my valuables were safe in the room because their safe was not electronic, it was simply a small door with a tiny padlock that anyone could open easily and we had our passports and expensive jewellery and camera in there. I expected better when we book a private ensuite room.
For the price we paid for the room, I expected better facilities in the room. Other places we stayed were cheaper with so much more facilities in their rooms.
