Situated in Otter Rock, this lovely house for $170 per night is a fantastic choice for your next break. The Cedar House Welcome to The Cedar House, located in Otter Rock! This gorgeous, oceanfront property boasts amazing ocean views with two stories, four bedrooms and two baths and room for up to eight guests! You can even bring your favorite four legged pup with you! Sitting on an acre of land, you and your family will feel like the only people for miles around! Park the car, grab your bags, and head inside! Upon entering the home via the wood deck, you'll find yourself in a cozy room featuring the living room, dining room, and kitchen. A couch sits facing the kitchen area, while a large flat screen TV sits nearby. Cozy up with your loved ones and enjoy a movie together while dinner cooks! The dining room table can seat all of your guests, or you can enjoy a quick bowl of cereal or some morning coffee at the kitchen counter. The location and the view were amaing!
But the house had a horrific toxic odor! Mold mildew poison.. not 100% sure what it was. It was so bad we started feeling ill. We ended up leaving a day early because we couldnt handle it anymore . Pretty much ruined our entire trip.. Great location. Great view!

Our coastal visit was so peaceful and enjoyable! We loved sitting on the deck for coffee and some meals while watching for whales with our binoculars. The beach was a close walk down. The older ones of us had hiking poles, and the toddler maneuvered the trail ok. The location of the house was close for visiting Devil’s Punchbowl and Newport areas. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking our meals.

The house was absolutely filthy and stank of sewage. We had to wash all the silverware, dishes and pans before we could use them because everything was covered in a greasy, sticky film. The beds are extremely uncomfortable and the sheets smell dank and musty. The upstairs toilet wobbles, there are cobwebs everywhere, half the blinds are broken, parts of the subfloor are exposed with nails sticking out, etc, etc. We started calling this house 'the gift that keeps on giving' because of how many issues we kept encountering. It was easy to check in and the location is great, but the house itself is a health hazard.

This property was fantastic! Mountain surroundings with an ocean view. We watched whales from the deck everyday. Home was rustic cabin but extremely clean. Whole process was wonderful. We will definitely be looking into renting this one again.

We really loved being able to walk right down to the beach. House was cozy with plenty of space for everyone to sleep. There’s not much space for seating in the living room but we spent most of our time outside anyways. Would come back again!

Great place for a getaway, awsome views and secluded. Driveway is tight for large vehicles and a little confusing finding the house using GPS. Absolutely would stay there again.

It’s all about the location
This location was the best part of this property. Deck views of beach, a trail close by to a waterfall and the softest, cleanest sand. You’re a short drive from Depot Bay or Newport as well. But the driveway is steep, which made very many trips to and from the beach very tiresome. The house and linens were clean, but there were some seasonal ants to deal with. We couldn’t find the broom to sweep up until we did a visual sweep of the property at checkout. Turns out it was outside and the dustpan as well but by a different door. The house has enough beds to accommodate two families but only one small couch. The bathrooms have decent water pressure. The outside lights were not working, but that made it easier to see the ocean at night. Not much has changed about this house since it was built in the 60’s, and it’s a quirky setup. But it has what you need and it’s peaceful, nice for the dogs as well. The deck is large and well kept, and the property is clean.

There is nothing fancy about the house (some might call it dated or old fashioned), but it provides a comfortable and very relaxing experience. There is a steep bit at the end of the path to the beach, but the ropes worked just fine (you might want to bring some gloves for this) and the effort is well worth it. The short (about four feet) climb down would be a challenge for someone with mobility issues, The beach, which you can see and hear from the house, was really enjoyable and not busy at all (during the week, we were often the only people there).We enjoyed our stay immensely and would definitely return for another visit.

Private location with fantastic access to the beach
The property is literally at the end of the road- finding it was not difficult with the instructions provided. The cabin itself is rustic, so if you are looking for a modern, up-to-date kitchen and amenities this may not be the place for you. We wanted privacy and access to the beach- and this place was perfect! There is a hike up/down the hill to and from the beach and the last section requires use of a hand-line to lower yourself to the beach. This was not an issue for us or the dog that was with us.

This rustic cabin is such a classic coast experience - nothing fancy or updated,but you'll find everything you need. The beds are even pretty comfortable. The kitchen is well-stocked, but just know there is no dishwasher. The view is superb and it's just a short walk down to the beach. This is on a steep hill, so not appropriate for the elderly or anyone with mobility issues. We enjoyed the wood stove-just know that you'll need to bring your own wood (not enough provided). The back upstairs bedroom is a bit musty, but otherwise everything was comfortable. I agree with others that there's only one sofa in the living room so difficult for everyone to gather together without sitting in hard chairs. Check-in was super easy and the staff super helpful! We would stay here again.

I called the fourth time and someone finally said yes ..and they told me they were sorry about the whole thing and that it was wrong.

Overall I give this place a 3. My family had fun and that's all that matters to me.. this place is nice but needs improvement .
As for the oregon beach vacation business that made me the reservation I'm pretty patient and nice but wow.. I work at customer service and I understand that can be draining but show some effort and kindness.. shout out to Julie that helped me.

The property is run down, outdated, and poorly maintained. As many other reviews confirm it was very dirty on arrival. If all you are interested in is a place near the beach that fits a medium size group this place will suffice but I wouldn’t return or recommend it to friends. Beach is only accessible to able-bodied visitors.

Our Otter Rock experience was quite mixed. As background, 6 adults and 2 small children stayed in the house for 2 nights. The best thing about the property is its location: beautiful elevation overlooking the ocean, easy access to the beach, only 5 miles from Newport. The worst thing about the property is the property itself: generally unclean and in need of substantial repair and improvement. There are also safety issues that should be addressed including the deck (one could easily lose one's footing and fall over the side) and the flooring (several sharp, protruding objects were identified). In short, The Cedar House is not a good value. I would try to find better accommodations.

For $5500 dollars for 9 days stay, I would hope that the floor would have been swept, the kickboards in the kitchen would be in place, the cobwebs in the upstairs bedrooms would be cleaned out, and the plants on the deck would not be bone dry. The upstairs rooms have no privacy and the open air design doesn't make any sense.
That being said, the location is amazing and this is the third time in four years we have stayed here.
Hopefully the property manager will take a little more care in the rental upkeep, especially since the cost of the stay doubled in the past two years!

We had an absolutely wonderful time at this cabin. One of the best Airbnb’s we have ever stayed out. While not a fancy, luxurious type of place... This was more of a Cozy Homey cabin feel. It was just perfect for us. Best of all was a short walk down to the beach which felt very private. The road/trail is at a somewhat decline, and you get down to the actual beach there’s a steep 2 foot drop where you use a rope to lower yourself down to the beach. But totally doable for everyone in our group from age 4 through 60. If you had handicap issues it would not work well for you. Check in and out was extremely easy. And the views from the window and the deck are worth every penny. Extremely private and quiet at the end of the world. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

The Cedar House was a terrible experience starting with front porch chairs (torn, dirty, not useable), filthy kitchen (all dishes were grimy, pots had peeling bottoms), holes in the walls, minimal furniture (no place for to sit except on one sofa or kitchen table (which didn't fit space), used underwear on door hook, disgusting shower (dirty and literally dripped water at full power), 2 small sticks for firewood, and was such a disappointment for a family celebration. Only stayed one night because family arrived late. Left first thing in the morning and appreciated the managements response (refund for stay, except one night).

7 adults stayed 2 nights at the Cedar house, with 2 more guests joining us for a day trip. The first thing we noticed was the darkness in the house. It was all beautiful wood inside, but the lighting was awful. We took the glass shades off the bedroom/bathroom lights to provide more lighting which still was not enough. There was no lighting in the hallway where the pantry was. We were forced to use the flash lights on our cell phones to see inside cupboards, which were filled with junk. We are unable to turn the heater off, so windows were opened.
The few pans there were warped and filthy, which explains the stains on the glass top stove - we scrubbed off with the spray cleaner we bought! Also no hot pads.
In big letters, the ad says the house had a dishwasher (there were even washer tablets) but the fine print said no dishwasher. Hmmm???
One bedroom had 2 bedside lights, 1 light was not plugged in because it was not able to reach any outlet!
The upstairs laundry closet, which was clearly marked sheets, blankets was EMPTY. No spare blankets. My sister did find an extra blanket tucked in a cubby in her room. When she opened it up, Doritos fell out!!!
Previous reviews mentioned the upstairs shower not working. It STILL was not working! This was unacceptable for our large group, and we’d would like to pursue a partial refund. Are the owners not reading these reviews?
Even though the house sleeps 8, the 1 couch and 1 torn chair were not enough for all of us in the living room. The dinner table had the extra leaf in it but the dining area was not large enough to accommodate the table AND us. We had to move the table partially into the living room for any of us to access the table/chairs which was still a tight squeeze.
The long narrow gravel road could be difficult for big vehicles to navigate. Just know that brush could scratch your car.

In big letters, the ad says the house had a dishwasher (there were even washer tablets) but the fine print said no dishwasher. Hmmm???
One bedroom had 2 bedside lights, 1 light was not plugged in because it was not able to reach any outlet!
The upstairs laundry closet, which was clearly marked sheets, blankets was EMPTY. No spare blankets. My sister did find an extra blanket tucked in a cubby in her room. When she opened it up, Doritos fell out!!!
Previous reviews mentioned the upstairs shower not working. It STILL was not working! This was unacceptable for our large group, and we’d would like to pursue a partial refund. Are the owners not reading these reviews?
Even though the house sleeps 8, the 1 couch and 1 torn chair were not enough for all of us in the living room. The dinner table had the extra leaf in it but the dining area was not large enough to accommodate the table AND us. We had to move the table partially into the living room for any of us to access the table/chairs which was still a tight squeeze.
The long narrow gravel road could be difficult for big vehicles to navigate. Just know that brush could scratch your car.

Private cabin with amazing location
Incredible location - just a short walk to the beach, and amazing views from the deck and living room. The carpet and many of the fixtures are worn and dated, but everything was very clean and functional. The cabin is situated on the property such that it feels very secluded, and it's almost like having the forest and beach to yourself. Looking forward to visiting again!

Our group had a wonderful time at the Cedar House. The location is private, gorgeous, and a very short walk to the beach. The house was clean though we would have liked the upstairs heaters to work as it was chilly at night. That was the only issue we had, everything else was lovely and helped us all had a fun and relaxing week in Otter Rock. We would love to return someday!

We really enjoyed our stay in Otter Rock! Cabin is very close to beach access, but the path down to the beach was tricky. Not accessible to folks who have issues with really steep step downs.
Cabin was overall good. The views and location made up for the quirks in the cabin. I will say that there is really only 1 useable shower in the cabin as the upstairs shower has no water pressure when it is turned to warm. Cold water did have water pressure but not for hot. There were only 4 of us so we happily shared the downstairs shower, but it might've gotten tricky if there were more people. The king size bed is not worth sleeping on, very very uncomfortable, but the rest of the beds were great.
Note that firewood is not included so if you are going outside of the warmer season make sure you pick some up!
Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would rent it again.
