Hostel SHYMBULAK

Highly recommend staying here — perfectly located next to the ski resort. It’s such a beautiful spot. Very relaxing. Was warm, clean and comfortable. We stayed in an 8-bed dorm but we (2 people) had the whole room to ourselves. The bathroom and shower facilities were good too. The host was incredibly kind. We communicated via google translate but she was so lovely and generous, our interactions were a real highlight of our trip in Kazakh. We were served tea and the most delicious pancakes on arrival — a real treat after skiing all day. And also porridge in the morning. We arrived early and we were able to store our bags before check-in (and also after check-out on the second day).

The ambience and of course the distance with the skiing place is near and for a night crash around ski resort this is so affordable.

Dorm as expected for a mountain lodge hostel. Cosy kitchen and great location near the ski resort.

Given the price, I now realize that if I had known how easy it was to return to Almaty using the gondola combined with public transportation or Yandex, I would have gotten much more value for my money by staying in Almaty instead.
