If your looking to leave the city behind and unwind on the deck of your own private rustic cottage with stunning views, to sit back and sip a glass of fine Hunter Valley wine and do nothing but soak up the peace and serenity.
Perhaps a picnic on the mountain with a loved one, bush walking on our many trails, spotting local wildlife including our kangaroos and wallabies or feeding our farm animals interest you, then picturesque Hunter River Retreat is for you.
Hunter River Retreat is situated on 110 acres and approx. 2 hrs from Sydney, 15 minutes from Maitland, with boutique wineries close by and the main Hunter Valley wineries approx. 30 minutes away. Full Day Bus Winery Tours can also be organized that pick up from The Retreat - you can taste and not worry about driving.
Goanna Lodge is a private fully self-contained cabin with a huge deck, gourmet BBQ and stunning views which makes entertaining or a family get togethers on the deck a must.
The Goanna lodge has 3 bedrooms, the main bedroom featuring a queen bed, and a glass sliding door leading to the third bedroom, will be loved by the children and features a double bed and a loft bed above, along with a tv and dvd player.

The stay was great. The hosts were very nice and very accommodating.
The accommodation was just the right size, clean and comfortable.
Waking up to the kookaburras, the wallabies, the cows and alpacas was just so relaxing.

Kids loved all the farm animals and the pool. The host communicated well leading to our holiday there. Unfortunately, the place (Goana lodge) needs a bit of attention (wooden deck boards are loose with nails coming out, dusty generally and dirty under beds). There is also a few possums nesting in the wall caveat and roof which needs addressing. All up a memorable stay.

We loved staying at Hunter Valley Retreat, kids and adult both enjoyed being so close to animals and feeding them. Eloise is a very warm and welcoming host and we all loved how much time she takes out to ensure you get close to animals. Its a beautiful spot

Great short stay. The house has everything you need. Kitchen essentials needs to be upgraded and cleanliness of property was poor. Overall had a good stay with my husband and 5 kids. Very remote and private property which we loved.
