The rental location is substandard and needs fixing
The rental location is substandard and needs fixing
Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: It was a disappointing experience overall and we would never rent this property again. Though located in a lovely, quaint neighborhood, the house itself is in very poor shape and badly in need or repairs/renewal.
I am not talking about major structural reforms (although it could use some of those too), but very basic things, such as:
1. Beds that are totally worn out and sag. They made it hard to get a good night sleep and that is wholly undesirable when you are on vacation.
2. Strong stench of tobacco in the living room and master bedroom when we arrived. It went away some, but not fully, after 2 weeks of A/C use.
3. Nonexistent/badly worn out/broken bedside lamps. Screens partly torn or nonexistent, or no lamp at all (on the left bedside table in the master bedroom) until we complained.
4. Smelly (dusty?) enclosed porch, which the kids complained loudly about.
5. The furniture mostly looks like it was picked up in a hurry in a garage sale and not always in proper condition. The pictures of the house don't show it clearly enough and in that sense they are misleading.
6. Improvised, subpar solutions to structural problems, eg. the scarcity of plugs in the main bedroom "solved" via an extension cord with extra outlets at one end.
7. Structural problems include rusted up pipes, so that the hot water comes up brown when you first turn it on in the main bathroom; nail tips that stick out on the floor, making it unadvisable to walk around barefoot in some areas of the first floor; at least one window that take some effort to close, etc.
The management was quite responsive and friendly, even providing a second complementary cleaning service and fixing some of the problems, such as banging some nails down and providing a humidifier por the enclosed porch, but on the main issue (sagging mattresses) they were not responsive, claiming it would take too long to get a new one, when in fact there is a mattress store downtown Gloucester.
