If you have tattoos you will need to rent the private onsen but it is a great price and a great facility.

If you want a traditional onsen hotel experience without paying astronomical prices, this is a great spot.
The Pros:
Location: An easy, flat walk from Hakone-Yumoto station.
Food: The half-board option (dinner and breakfast) is a must. The food is exquisite.
Ambiance: Sleeping on comfortable futons while listening to the river outside the window was incredibly peaceful.
Things to know:
Like many traditional ryokans, standard rooms don't have attached showers, so you use the public bathhouse to wash up and soak. The property is slightly older but exceptionally well-maintained and clean. Staff speak enough English to get by and are incredibly helpful. Fantastic value!
The biggest thing for future travelers to note is that standard rooms do not have private showers or baths - only a toilet and sink. You have to wash up in the communal public onsen or rent the private bath. It wasn’t a dealbreaker for us, but it’s good to know ahead of time.

No private shower and not enough towels. We also had to lay out our own futon beds.
