The house is located on a beautiful stretch of Hatteras Island. You have to drive by a boarded up house and an abandoned, decaying trailer to get there, but the house itself has sweeping views of the ocean — a short walk over the dune and you are on a quiet, pristine beach. There are some issues, however, with the house and the way it is equipped: - There is one zone for the AC, which means it can be hot on the top floor and frigid on the three floors below. - The grill looks great but is basically unusable. It’s hard to get the temperature above 275 degrees unless you are barbecuing under the heat of the afternoon sun. - There were a grand total of 2 wine glasses. We bought a few at one of the campground convenience stores and left them, so now there are 5. - The dishwasher is terrible — dishes emerge from still dirty. - The laundry washer and dryer are also old and not particularly effective. - The collection of dishes and pots and pans is lacking There is one nice cast-iron pan. But good luck cooking a big meal. - The knives are comically dull. You can cut butter, but good luck slicing a lemon. Also — there is only one cutting board — a plastic one which we found outside by the grill. - The bed coverings and towels are there — but they are old and supremely cheap. - Most of the doors squeak and stick. The place needs maintenance. - Bottom line: considering that the house costs nearly $1700 a night, it should be better equipped and maintained. On the plus side — the owner was polite and responsive to our questions. When we arrived, there was no corkscrew for us to open a celebratory wine. The owner sent one out the next day (it’s not easy to find a corkscrew for sale in Rodanthe). The house also has pretty good WiFi and televisions. With some improvements (and a new grill!), this could be a great place to stay.

Me and my friends had been looking forward to staying at this beach front property for past six months and had made full payment 5 months in advance. In leading up to our stay, we started to do some basic research on property, location, nearby restaurants, things to do etc…, so we felt we were quite prepared. As you will read below, our research could only get us so far and we definitely had some surprises: Positives: 1. During research, we came to see that on Zillow property is listed as Foreclosure. This prompted us to contact property manager who assured us that property is in great condition and that in fact owner is doing some upkeep at the moment. To this point, when we got to property, it was in fact in a relatively decent condition, and having filtered water on every floor was a nice touch. 2. Property had good amount of beach chairs, cart, and few boogie boards along with some toys for children 3. Location was great. But be warned that in order to get to the beach, you do need to climb a small hill of sand (which is expected in a beach location… do not expect steps) Now negatives: 1. WiFi is horrible and property manager was not helpful in resolving any issues. Our night time plans of streaming movies and having a good time with family and kids were ruined as a result (as of writing this review, I have yet to receive any sort of apology or compensation for this inconvenience) 2. We were told by property management that there would be no toys or chairs for kids at the property. So we actually brought chairs with us only to find out there were decent amount of chairs at the property. 3. Pool table has been moved down into first floor room which does not have enough space to play pool shots from side. In pictures, pool table is shown to be on 2nd floor with TV. It is no longer the case. This was a huge drawback. 4. Vacuum in house does not work properly. It lacks suction. So beware if you spill anything that you may need to pick up using hands. 5. Towels are worn out and losing color. 6. We were surprised by check out condition thrown at us about not using more than one container for trash outside on 3rd day of our stay since garbage is only picked up once a week and they needed to have space for next party coming in. By then, it was obviously too late. We were not told of this condition before. Overall good property, but not so great customer relationship management.
