We stayed at Villa Casa Dean for a week from 22nd to 29th August, myself and my three adult daughters, and overall we had a very enjoyable stay. Communication before and throughout our stay was excellent. Any questions were answered quickly and, when we had an issue with the seal at the bottom of the front door, it was dealt with and fixed within a matter of hours. That level of responsiveness was really appreciated. The villa itself is a spacious four bedroom property with a private pool and plenty of parking. It was exactly as described and is very well furnished and equipped. It is clearly a property that is regularly rented out and a lot of thought has gone into providing everything guests might need. There was an abundance of crockery, cutlery, utensils and kitchen equipment, as well as various inflatables and other items for the pool. The separate utility room was particularly useful, with a washing machine, dryer and a fantastic industrial ice machine, which was probably one of my favourite features! The outside area is lovely and the views are fantastic. We also made good use of the traditional Portuguese style barbecue and really enjoyed having that facility available. The location worked very well for us. It is quiet and private while still being conveniently positioned just off the main roundabout and within easy reach of Lagos and the surrounding area. I played Boavista Golf three times during our stay and the villa sits at the end of the now unused driving range. There is access from the rear of the property, making it possible to walk over towards Boavista Golf Club and its restaurant, which is a real bonus for golfers. in a great location, with excellent hosts and communication.

There are, however, a few things worth mentioning. The television in the main lounge was difficult to use properly and is mounted far too high, which makes its positioning quite impractical. The air conditioning in the green bedroom was also quite sporadic and did not work particularly well, although the air conditioning in the other bedrooms worked very well. The pool water appeared clean, although we did not see the pool actively cleaned during our week’s stay and, as the cover wasn’t being used, leaves and other debris naturally accumulated at times. More importantly, some of the tiles around the pool area are uneven. This wasn’t a significant problem for us as we were four adults, but I would be cautious with younger children running around the pool area until those are addressed. Another point worth knowing concerns the short winding access road to the villa. There is a nearby property or farm with two very large dogs which were loose, uncollared and quite aggressive towards our car on a couple of occasions. This is obviously outside the villa owner’s direct control, but I personally would not recommend walking along that stretch of road, particularly with children. The owners live on site in an adjoining property. This caused us no problems and we still felt that we had our privacy, but it is worth being aware of when booking. There are also fairly strict expectations regarding leaving the villa clean and tidy and disposing of all rubbish. The main wheelie bin is some distance down the access road, so realistically we found it easier to put the rubbish in the car and drive it down. Having a more convenient rubbish collection point nearer the villa would be an improvement. Overall, though, these are relatively minor points in what was a very good week’s stay. Casa Dean is spacious, comfortable, extremely well equipped and in a peaceful location with wonderful views.
