About this house rental

Nestled in Topsail Beach, this charming house for $379 per night is a great option for your next vacation. New Feature! When you stay at either (or both) Sea & Sound / Sound and Sea you can rent a kayak or 2!  Each kayak is a single seater. Rent one for $100.00 or both for $150.00. This is the cost for a 1 week rental. There are only 2 kayaks so this is on a first come first serve basis.    Sea & Sound/ Sound & Sea you can’t ask for more than that, truly the best of both worlds. Built in 1968, this adorable beach home is a little piece of history on Topsail Island. Located on Topsail Beach which is at the South end of Tops’l (as the locals say). It is an equal distance from the beach as it is to the sound. The beach access is in the front directly across the 2-lane street. The sound access is behind the home down a short Live Oak edged stone drive. This home truly feels like a beach house that’s sweet and nostalgic dropped into our modern time. You will love the feel of Sea & Sound/ Sound & Sea whether you rent the top floor, the bottom floor, or the entire home.  Sound & Sea is the first floor of this special home. Painted in the beautiful turquoise of the ocean on a perfect summer day and trimmed with crisp white, this little beach gem will be just the right spot to spend some time away from your day to day. The living room has a couch with chaise on one end and 2 chairs round out the living room so everyone can grab a seat to catch a movie on the smart TV. The dining room table across from the living room seats 6 with 4 stools at the kitchen counter. The kitchen is equipped for an average day of cooking. The 2 bedrooms are the perfect respite after the afternoon on the beach building sandcastles and jumping waves or paddling a kayak through the sound. The master bedroom has a queen-size bed, and the second bedroom has a bunk bed with full size mattresses on top and bottom. There is one bathroom with a bathtub/ shower. Salt and sand are a way of life at the beach, to keep it manageable there is a full-size washer and dryer. This first-floor unit sleeps 6. There are resin Adirondack chairs on the front patio of the house.   Sea & Sound is on the top floor. Decorated in soothing pale-blue greens, white trim, and natural wood, it is both relaxing and functional. The living room has a comfortable sectional couch that will tempt you into staying home for a catnap while everyone else goes out to play. The dining room table seats 6 and the kitchen is equipped with everything you will need for a quick meal on your way out to your next adventure. There are 2 bedrooms with queen-size beds and 1 bedroom with 2 twin beds. The bathroom has been completely renovated including a step-in shower (no bathtub). This floor sleeps 6. You’ll really love the convenience of the stacked washer and dryer after a day on the beach. The top floor has a lovely partial wrap around the deck. On the deck near the front door is a small table with 2 chairs, just the perfect spot to sit quietly, sip your coffee and watch the sun come up, turning a grey horizon into a magnificent orange sky.  Rent just one floor or both. You will find a connection to a by gone time that you thought you had lost or maybe never had. Topsail will lull you into a state of relaxation you’ll want to return to again and again. Bring your entire family including your much-loved fur babies. You’ll find yourself taking long walks on the beach picking up shark’s teeth and sea glass along the way or take advantage of the 2 one seater Kayak that you can rent singularly or together to paddle the many estuaries leading to the Inter Coastal Waterway. Simply walk down the road next to the home to find where you can launch your kayak or paddleboard. What an amazing experience to be out on the sound watching the myriad of shorebirds fly across a sky painted with the sorbet colors of sunset! Once your day is winding down and you return home tired and sugared with salt and sand, you’ll truly appreciate the hot and cold running outside shower. Parking is at a premium on this residential part of the Island. There are 2 spaces for each unit, 4 in total. One of those spaces is smaller and should be used for a compact vehicle.   Topsail Island has many fun and fascinating spots to visit. This is truly a thriving beach community with a small-town feel, no wonder it’s been considered Mayberry by the Sea (book of the same name by the local author Ray McAllister). This home is located only 5 miles from Surf City where you can find many wonderful privately owned beach shops and restaurants BUT even closer is Topsail Beach. If you have Fishermen (or Ladies) in your group a trip to the Jolly Roger Pier is a must! Jutting out 850 feet into the ocean you can sometimes see dolphins and sea turtles swimming by. The Missiles and More Museum offers you the fascinating history of Topsail from the pirates who gave the island its name to the military using it in World War II. Conveniently within walking distance of the museum is Quarter Moon Books and Gifts where you can enjoy your coffee or maybe a glass of wine before heading to a 5-star dinner at the Beach Shop & Grill. If you are truly looking for a retro vibe and a lot of fun stop off and lace those skates up at Topsail Beach Skating Rink, open since 1964 this landmark has been a part of so much family history.    Sea & Sound/ Sound & Sea whichever you prefer, or you love them both equally, this home will take you back to a simpler time when enjoying the people you are with and the beautiful surroundings you find yourself in is all that truly matters.     This property consists of two duplexes, Sea & Sound (top level) and Sound & Sea (ground level), combined for one larger home. Overall, we were satisfied, but there are significant deficiencies. We rented the entire place (5 persons upstairs, 4 downstairs) for a week in July. The cottage is old and a bit shabby. The 2 bathrooms are very small. One bathroom for 4 adults is barely enough and for 5 is ridiculous. The door to the outside shower would not close completely. When we checked in the back door downstairs could not be locked. This was fixed that night on our insistence. Do not bother to contact "maintenance" for assistance. Contact the rental office directly when you have problems. Security is an issue. Both upstairs and downstairs, the wooden door frame that received the lock bolt was badly damaged. I suspect that each door could easily be kicked open when "locked." In the queen-bed downstairs bedroom, the overhead fan only worked when the light was on, and the window air conditioner was loud, making comfortable sleeping at night dicey. This was not a big problem for us but could be on hot, humid nights. There are no ice makers in the refrigerators and only one ice tray in each, so you may want to bring an ice tray or 2. All our communications with the owner and rental company prior to and during the visit went very smoothly, and we appreciate the friendly interactions.

The house is at a great location. It has an access point to the sound on one side and an extremely short walk to the beach on the other. The neighborhood is awesome. It's very quiet and we had a very relaxing week. It's close enough to things to do, but far enough away from a lot of activity (which is just what we wanted). The only real problem with this property is the downstairs. It has ONE A/C unit to cool the entire place. When you close the doors to sleep at night for privacy, your room heats up because it does not have central air. It was pretty stuffy down there the entire week. You also have to be careful because there is a spot on the floor that several of our guests tripped over. The concrete is uneven. It's a definite hazard. It also could have been cleaner. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't awesome. There was dust on the baseboards and the mats in the bathroom looked like they hadn't been cleaned up in a while. There was also old mouse poop in the drawer below the oven. Apparently they have a bug problem also. We saw some cockroaches inside and outside. We were told they were palmetto bugs. They came and sprayed outside but couldn't inside because we didn't know they were coming and were not ready to leave so they could spray. Communication was easy and the manager was very responsive. For as much money as you spend on a place you expect it to be nice and clean and to at least have central air conditioning in all the spaces.

It was great to be able to access ocean and sound side so easily. The air conditioner unit on first level was not adequate for hot weather.

This house provided a wonderful place for our family from 3 states to reunite for a great beach vacation. We encountered 1 problem that was resolved quickly before it became a larger issue. The Sea unit has a small but adequate bedroom and bathroom with a very comfortable bed. The neighborhood was quiet and sunset viewing was right down the side street.
