About this house rental

Nestled in Oak Island, this charming house for $225 per night is a fantastic choice for your next trip. Nestled on a private waterfront lot, Heron’s Hideaway has three bedroom, two baths and a backyard that in the evenings lights up like a movie set. This family friendly home is located just a quick bike ride away from the beautiful beaches of Oak Island, restaurants, shopping and groceries. It features a fenced-in yard large enough to keep any pup happy and entertained. Watch the sunset from the fishing pier as you listen to the shrimp jump and the sounds of the tide flowing in and out. Launch kayaks from the floating dock and explore the quiet, serene, wildlife-filled Davis Canal where the blue herons fly overhead. Use the crab pot or cast out a few fishing lines to catch your own dinner - and don’t forget to ring the bell when you make your big catch. Enjoy yourself under the shady oaks of the large backyard. Put an umbrella in your drink and grab a book as you relax on the back deck. Rest on the hammock swing hanging on the crooked oak tree - it is the perfect place to enjoy a cup of hot coffee in the morning as you look out over the canal or stargaze with the fireflies in the evening. Roasting marshmallows over the built in bonfire pit is the perfect end to a relaxing day spent exploring Oak Island. With plenty of room to spread out or get together for a family dinner, this house is truly a great home away from home. Heron's Hideaway is waiting for you! Special note for boat owners: The dock and floating Roll and Ride shown in the photos can certainly support canoes, kayaks, John-boats and small fishing boats up to 14ft long/8ft wide/2k lbs that can be used in shallow water. Please be advised at low tide the canal can get as shallow as 2-3 feet. Having said this, there is ample space in the 100ft long driveway to park your boat trailer and drive to one of the many boat launches all over the island. You can quickly be out on the ICW (inter coastal waterway) which gives you water access to the Atlantic Ocean, Lockwood Folly River, Southport or Baldhead Island. NOTE: As of 4/1/23 from Apr-Sept Oak Island has implemented parking fees, similar to our neighboring beaches, from 9 am-5 pm for all beach parking. NOTE: there are two security cameras—one in the front yard and one in the back yard.

We arrived at night, so it wasn't easy to see. The biggest "suggestion" I have, which relates to the key in the lockbox, is to get another lockbox. There were no lights on the porch, and no matter how we entered the entry code, the box would not "pop" open. We spent 15 minutes in the dark, attempting to open the box and get the key. When we left, we had the same problems. The owner said we could leave it at another location for the cleaning crew. Phew! Other than that, WOW! We had a fabulous time; everything was clean, and the kitchen was amazing! All the beds were comfortable, and we were comfortably warm. There was ample wood for our night's out by the fire ring, and the birds were everywhere. Another thing: we had to switch bedrooms, as the back bedroom's main rug, while beautiful, was flipped up. It had been taped down, but that did not keep the carpet down, and I tripped over it several times. So, we blocked off that room. Besides the beautiful location, the owners were right there and promptly addressed our issues. They were professional, polite, kind, and extremely pleasant. We had a great, relaxing time at Heron's Hideaway! Thank you!!

I took my parents on a little trip to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary. Dawn and Tommy were so amazing from the start. The house was absolutely beautiful and perfect for us. The accommodations were amazing with the cutest little touches. We fished off the dock and hit the beach daily. We also cooked out and hung by the fire pit in the evenings. I would recommend to all of my friends and family!!!

We all thoroughly enjoy our week long stay at Heron's Hideaway. The mornings out on the dock drinking coffee and watching the birds was very relaxing. We enjoyed the fire pit for roasting hot dogs and making smores. The amenities were perfect. The leisure strole to the beach was just right. This was our first time on this end of the island we have previously stayed near the Oak Island pier. Oak Island is a great place to unwind and decompress.

The home was better than we expected! Not only was it well-kept and beautifully decorated, the kitchen had all we needed for the meals we pre-planned. The outdoor campfire sites were wonderful! The owner had plenty of wood available for us to use. The dock and unique outdoor setting made this one of our absolute favorites!!! The decorations inside the home, made us feel like it was not a rental property. The owner was prompt in answering any questions we had. We will definitely consider this home if we go back to Oak Island!

The home was very cozy and we really enjoyed being able to crab, fish, canoe, and grill at the home. We liked that the kitchen was fully equipped and had everything we needed for cooking. We were also able to make s’mores and roast marshmallows, which the kids loved. We would for sure book this home again in the future, the location was in the middle of everything.

We loved this property, it had everything you could possibly want to have a great vacation. The house was beautiful and incredibly clean. There are several places to enjoy the outdoors with and without shade. Kayaks, beach gear, and chairs were available. My personal favorites were the wide variety of flowers, plants and beautiful pieces of art. We will visit there again!!
