About this house rental
Situated in Castle Rock Lake, this attractive house for $366 per night is a fantastic option for your next break. Our Northern Retreat Townhome is a gem nestled in a haven of quiet woods. This place is calling to you...its time to finally relax and breathe in the beauty. This large, beautiful 2,200 square foot townhome, comes with a king suite, a guest room with a queen bed, a guest room with 2 bunkbeds, and a fold-out couch downstairs. The bunkbeds have a double-sized bed on the bottom and a twin on top. *The Northern Retreat Townhome can comfortably sleep 8-10 people. Depending on comfort in sharing bunks and beds, and the ages of children, it could sleep up to 12 people. After 8 guests there is a charge of $15/night per guest. Pets are welcome with a $50 set fee for your stay. A 2 dog maximum. The patio out the sliding glass doors has a grill and gas-powered fire pit. Sitting at the outdoor table and chairs gives you a look at the lake through the woods. The balcony off of the Master bedroom overlooks the lake. Amenities include 10-foot ceilings, 2.5 baths, music in lower level and master bedroom, hardwood kitchen floor, stone counter tops, beautiful cabinets, incredibly comfortable high quality beds and linens, plush leather furniture, a garage stall in attached garage, all in a quiet setting approximately 1/4 mile from the Lake front Bar/Restaurant, VIP Club House, Marina, Arcade and Beach. Located on the Snowmobile & ATV trails. Only 25 minutes from downtown Wisconsin Dells. Spend the day exploring the gorgeous Castle Rock Lake area, experience the night life and local flavor then slip away to a peaceful nights rest. -----------------------

We vacationed around the dells and found this to be a great location. It was about a 30 minute drive from the Dells. It’s a quiet and peaceful area right on the water (no beach access directly on property but a short walk to). There is some places near by to rent boats. The beach area has the softest sand we have ever felt.
Overall, our stay was great. We did have some concerns that the sheets were not clean. There was some crusty yellow stuff on one set of sheets and the other was just in general dirty. We also were surprised that for a house that lists it could accommodate up to 12, it didn’t supply bigger dishes for large meals, seating in the living room only fits 4 and the kitchen table only seats 6 but others can sit at the island if need be.
Closet in master room is locked so no where for hang up clothes unless borrowing a closet from other rooms.
Property manager did not need to be contacted during our stay but we had great communication leading up to our stay. We did not have an issue with internet during our stay. It would be nice if there was some activities for the house (such as yard games, additional board games, lake floaters). Overall it was nice.

This property was disappointing. Beware of small details. They do not provide shampoo, soap for in the shower/bath (unless you want to use liquid hand soap), coffee, facial tissues or beach towels. I have not stayed at a rental property before that did not provide these basic amenities. Because we flew with carry-on bags only, space was limited in our luggage.
The grounds around the townhome were not well-kept--lots of overgrown grass and weeds. Things seemed relatively clean inside but there were wrappers on the floor in the master bedroom, and coffee grounds and coffee in the coffee pot from the previous renter. The development that the town home was in was eerily quiet (even on the Saturday we were there.) The on-site restaurant (which does not get very good reviews) was closed during the week and the pool is not open to renters. The beach was deserted. The setting is pretty in the trees with views of the lake, but the best view is from the master bedroom balcony. The patio downstairs has only a round log table with benches and a grill. There were two folding lawn chairs and one beach chair in the garage, which we planned to use to watch the sunset--but then realized the beautiful sunset pictures on the site are actually pictures of the sunrise which, in July, beams directly onto the bed in the master bedroom. There was just an overall atmosphere of "hanging on" and doing the minimum to get by. I would not stay again. Way overpriced for what you get.

The property was very nice and convenient to the highway but pictures misrepresented access to the lake from the house. While it is lake facing there is a major drop from the yard to the lake which creates no access to swim. However, there is a beach nearby.
Back yard is shared with neighbors who have 2 very large dogs staked out there and gives limited access for kids to play.

Everything was great except that the pictures in the listing were distorted making the refrigerator look huge when it was actually much smaller which made things challenging for us during our week long stay. The photos should be more realistic so one knows precisely what to expect. The master bedroom walk-in closet was locked and not available for use which was not stated in the listing.. The master bedroom king bed blocked the outlet for the left side of the bed preventing one from placing ones alarm or phone charger on the bedside table. A power strip should be plugged in behind the bed for use on the table or floor for guest use since this bed is too large to move to get access to that outlet. The washer/dryer is a space saving stacked unit in a closet upstairs. Be prepared to climb 21 stairs to get upstairs and back down! Overall, this house is very nice and the management was very responsive when the wifi went out toward the end of our stay. We would stay there again and give it a thumbs up aside from the master bdrm issues.

We enjoyed the home very much. We had 8 adults and 4 children ages 6 and under. There was a lot of space and it was very clean and comfortable. The kitchen could have used more serving/baking ware to prepare the amount of food you need for 12 people (large serving bowls, 9X13 baking dish, more flatware, e.g.) but had plenty of pots and pans for the stovetop. Be aware that the backyard ends at a 12 ft bluff, especially if you arrive at night. Loved the driveway being in a culdesac for kids to ride bikes and play safely. Overall an excellent stay and we highly recommend!

Beautiful townhouse set within a serene woods and lake view. Close to everything you need and within 30 minutes of Wisconsin Dells. Townhouse was spacious and beautifully decorated. We had an issue with the oven and within a short phone call was addressed and fixed.
Only downfall was the establishments near by were closed during our stay, but others were a quick drive down the road.
Took advantage of the nearby water sports rentals and enjoyed the beach which was a short walk.
I highly recommend!! We had a great time!

It was very easy to set up and the owner was amazing to work with for changes or questions. We were so impressed with how beautiful and spacious the home was. It met all our needs but wish we would have known it wasn’t directly on the beach like the pictures made it look. However, even though it wasn’t on the beach, it was very close and we loved the quiet peacefulness. We will definitely go back again!! Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Castle Rock Vacation
Our family had a great time! Gary's place is spacious, clean, and had everything we needed. We had plenty of space for parking our vehicles and we spent a great deal of time in the yard daily. Gary was a fantastic host, communicating before and during our stay. We'd definitely recommend Gary's place!

Mauston Stay
This is a beautiful condo right next to Castle Rock Park. The condo is large with everything we needed for a few night stay. Owner was great with responding to questions. No lake access, which we knew and was fine for this trip. Would definitely recommend and book again.

Would stay again, even with issue that was resolved
his townhouse was larger than I expected. The kitchen was large, and nice wide stairway to second floor. While the lake is not accessible, there is a nice view, particularly when we moved our lawn chairs to the back of the yard.
Unfortunately, when we arrived, the house had not been cleaned from the previous visitors. It is quite uncomfortable to walk into dirty towels all over, used sheets and a dirty kitchen. But I texted the contact, and she quickly came over and cleaned. Apparently she was unaware it was rented, but she was nice and took care of it. Luckily when we were there it was the off season, so it was nice and quiet. I suspect if it was in the summer, it could be loud with the large campground right next door. Overall the place worked really well for us, and we are thinking about coming back in the winter.

Peaceful Lakeside Getaway
My family and I had a great time vacationing at this property. It’s generally very quiet although it is right next to the edge of the county park campground so there was more late noise on the weekend when the campground was full.
The house was well-stocked with kitchen equipment which made it much easier to stay in when the weather wasn’t cooperating.
Overall great place and would stay there again!
