Good location for travelling down south, the restaurant is great and the staff pleasant

The location is ideal for an overnight stop on the way to southern France or Italy. It's conveniently located right next to the highway, yet surprisingly quiet. The rooms themselves are very basic, however, and the restaurant is overpriced for what it offers. The swimming pool is also much smaller than expected.
The older part of the hotel is charming, as are the gardens behind it. Unfortunately, only a few rooms are located in that historic building. The rest of the hotel consists of more modern, prefab-style structures that lack character. Overall, the property shows considerable wear and tear, and the low ceilings in some areas make it feel cramped.
The prefab rooms are overpriced for what they offer. On our way back, we stayed at the Holiday Inn next door and found both the rooms and the pool to be much better. That said, it was far more crowded, with a lot of excited kids running around.

The location was around 10-15 mins by car into the city. Free parking. The hotel is a very cute, kitchy style and nicely decorated. The staff was very friendly and the bed comfortable. There is a pool but we were only there for one night so didn't use it. The a/c worked. Our room was pretty big.
The breakfast could be better, but the tea selection was top stars. Improvements could be more fresh fruits, better eggs (the scrambled eggs were runny and soggy) The late night false fire alarm which woke us up and it took a while for staff to shut it down.

This is a good hotel in general, and we usually like staying there.
We did warn the hotel that we will arrive very late after the midnight. But when we finally arrived at 3am, it turned out that our room was given to somebody else. We had to wait for another hour to be given at least some room, and finally could get one after 4am. The room was OK, but not as good as the Superior room we originally booked.
We're not sure why it took such a long time to find a room for us, and it costed us more than an hour of sleeping time at that night, so we felt even more tired the next day. We sincerely hope that this experience will not repeat.
