I have stayed a number of times at Rinn Gion Shirakawa and for me it is an excellent location. The rooms are attractive and comfortable and the staff is very pleasant.
I wish they had space to offer breakfast - or an arrangement with a nearby bar - as there is no where in the immediate neighbourhood.

The small hotel was very refined and room a good size
The location was perfect surrounded by beautiful old houses and excellent restaurants .

We liked the location very much, which is in the heart of Gion. Attractions and restaurants are within walking distance. The room is spacious (which is unusual for Japan) and features a lovely Japanese-style design. The bed is large and comfortable, and all necessary amenities are provided. The hotel has a very pleasant atmosphere; the reception staff are attentive, and their English proficiency is adequate. The fragrant scent in the reception area is soothing.
Nothing. I just can´t remember if there was anything that we did not like. Perhpas this: We have stayed onlt 4 nigths. We would like to stay longer !

Good location. Lovely, quiet Gion area. Spacious room. 5-10 minute walk to 2 metro lines. 7-11 across the street.
Wanted a balcony room on the river. After booking non-refundable reservation, received a message that room was on 1st floor with no view. Also, bait and switch, room rate went up 50%. Neither Booking.com nor hotel would let me cancel when I called within 10 minutes. Hotel staff unable to recommend a nice kaiseki restaurant because "we only eat in casual restaurants." Certainly not worth the price point.
One washer constantly in use. Was told I could go to their sister property 10 minutes away.
Room was a bit dinged up.
