The outward appearance of the property was initially not objectionable. The problems began when we prepared to spend our first night in the house. The beds were made with ONLY a bottom sheet (no top sheet ) and each pillow on every bed was soiled, appeared old, and smelled like a 12-year-old boy after football practice. The mattresses were more like a box spring than a mattress; hard, with no flexibility. The bath towels stocked in the linen closets were a hodgepodge of poor quality, mismatched odd-sized garage sale finds. There were NO WASHCLOTHS. My husband called the property manager, Dorit the following morning to discuss the unacceptable mattresses, bedding, poor quality of the towels and lack of washcloths provided by the owners. The excuse given was “The owners are German and that's how they do things in Germany”. For $4,500 per month to lease this home, we expected to have comfortable beds, nicer bed linens that we're NOT piled, transparent microfiber, plush bath towels and to be supplied with some washcloths for bathing. This is not unreasonable. The kitchen was completely furnished with Dollar Store or Aldi small appliances each of these broke during our 3 month lease. The owners did not replace either of the coffee makers that broke during the time we leased. The utensils, dishes and pots and pans were Ikea. Again, we have paid $4,500 to lease this home PER MONTH x 3 months. September 2022 our final month of the lease. 10pm on a Friday night and the AC stops working. It was in the 90s outside. We call the “emergency on-call” telephone number. We get NO RESPONSE until the following day, mid-morning. The AC was temporarily repaired, but continued to stop working unpredictability for the duration of our stay. Monday September 26th, Hurricane Ian was bearing down on SW Florida. An evacuation of the Fort Myers and North Fort Myers had been issued. Not mandatory but suggested. The house at 3040 Sheltered Oak Place was included in the evacuation, there had been a permit issued for hurricane shutters to be installed on the residence, BUT NO HURRICANE SHUTTERS WERE INSTALLED. This made the residence unsafe to remain in. We called the leasing agent, as per contract they must offer an alternative property that is SAFE. The agent had nothing to offer and refused to refund the remaining 4 days of our lease - we were left to secure SAFE lodging with a hurricane approaching. This was the worst imaginable experience.
