The spaciousness of the floor plan is augmented by large windows flanking the magnificent wood-burning fireplace and rising all the way to the cathedral ceiling. With the clean lines of the furniture and the contemporary wrought iron light fixtures suspending from the ceiling offer unobstructed view of the forest outside every window. The open dining area features seating for six and French doors that open onto the front deck equipped with a gas grill for preparing mountain trout freshly caught in the nearby Watauga River. Pristine modern appliances appoint the fully-equipped centrally located kitchen. The living area features a comfortable seating area before the fireplace, a flat screen television, and a cabinet of books and games for relaxing after the day's excursions of canoeing and hiking. The master offers a King bed and the second bedroom has a Queen bed, and each offers the rustic comfort of layers of patchwork quilts. Large windows allow plenty of sunlight for enjoying a lazy breakfast in bed. A large covered deck stretches the entire front of the cabin, overlooking the surrounding rhododendron and large boulders. The deck is furnished with rocking chairs for after dinner snoozing and features a hot tub for soaking away the stiffness of overdoing it on the slopes while the snow falls around you or hiking up nearby Grandfather Mountain. Follow the path outside to your own fire pit for knocking off the chill after a summertime shower, roasting dogs and s'mores, and telling bear tales. For larger groups, consider renting this cabin with nearby Black Bear Lodge or Van Beek's Peak. This may be an older cabin but you will not find a cleaner one. Blue Ridge is awesome communicator. Weber grill on deck, classic older style jacuzzi 4 person hot tub on deck, two couches and nice fireplace. Only one neighbor about 4 acres away. Very private. Amazing sunrises and Mountain View’s from deck and living room. Loaded kitchen. Perfect for weekend. Hike from the home to the top of mountaintop- about .3 miles. Cons: no yard. Home on slope. Small driveway that required 4x4, 25 mins from any stores, one lane road to home (arrive in daylight only). Pro Tip- go to Kettle Brewery in Banner Elk - place is a dive but awesome brew. We will be back to this home.

Wonderful experience! The cabin is cozy, very pretty and has everything you need. Feels very secluded in the woods, but close to Boone and lots of great hiking trails. Everything was very clean when we arrived and the hot tub was clean and ready to use. The only minor gripe is that the shower curtain was mildewed and the towels smelled like cigarettes, but everything else was immaculate. The grill was broken but kitchen well supplied. We will definitely recommend and will be back!

The cabin is absolutely wonderful. One of the nicer cabins we have ever been to (and there have been quite a few over the years). Nicely laid out and well equipped kitchen. Very comfortable. Accessing is a bit of a challenge and it rained for our entire visit. This caused us enough concern with the not venturing out one day due to concerns about what shape the road up the mountain might be like (steep and slippery with all the rain). The drive way is another thing that needs to be noted. Not really much room at the bottom to turn around which leads to either backing up the hill or trying to execute a muli step K turn and not running off the edge or into the large boulder on the other side of the drive. If you're looking for a very nice place to simply go and relax this is a great option. If you're looking to get out and about to do things in the area it's a bit of a challenge coming and going.

We've stayed at multiple cabins in the NC mountains that provide similar 4WD access recommendations without any trouble whatsoever, so admittedly we didn't put a lot of weight on this rather soft warming. That was a very BIG mistake; getting to this cabin requires a significant amount of focus and can be downright terrifying at night. Otherwise the cabin indeed presents quite well: it's super-cozy, well- maintained, and really quaint. The wrap-around deck was nice, and there was effectively no traffic going past the cabin to disturb the peace. Our only negative observation at the cabin itself was that the deck under the hot tub has settled a few degrees, so the tub is no longer level, and water runs over back when three normal-sized adults enter (while there's still plenty of empty space at the front). This was a little disconcerting at first, but we used it twice without incident. We'd stay again, but not without driving the Jeep and certainly not in the winter.
