A leisurely three hour drive from Perth, it has secluded coves and coastal walking tracks. It has some of the best swimming beaches in WA including Meelup, Eagle Bay and Bunker Bay. Uniquely facing north to the Indian Ocean, these beaches have calm, sheltered water and they are nice and uncrowded. Many beaches have free barbecues and wonderful picnic areas. The HMAS Swan, located in Dunsborough, is a top spot for diving as it is the largest accessible dive wreck in the Southern Hemisphere. Of course if surfing is your passion, then the nearby Yallingup, Injidup and Margaret River surf breaks are close by. Dunsborough and the surrounding areas also have a wonderful arts scene, with live music and market days in summer and a plenty of art galleries showcasing local talent.
