The location is great and we loved unwinding by the sunset on the back deck overlooking the little waterway and the sound in the distance. The house is simple but comfortable and clean and the key needs are well taken care of. There are a few areas that could use some attention (especially missing shower control knob in master bathroom- we had to use pliers) but all in all we were very happy. Before arriving we had read a lot of negative reviews (not sure why we missed them when booking) and were concerned as we had paid in full and it was non-refundable. Fortunately our concerns proved wholly unwarranted and we enjoyed the house tremendously. One of the key gripes in peoples comments was about the dock not being accessible; fortunately there is now a brand new dock. Note: this house is managed by Vacasa, one of the very large property management organizations. Initial contact with Vacasa proved pointless as we figured out we were talking to a lady at a call center in El Salvador. She was polite and tried to be helpful but after repeatedly hearing the same scripted messages we realized that she could not affect anything with regards to the property. A visit to the local Vacasa office proved to be the solution. The lady at the counter had a somewhat 'computer says no' attitude but after a bit of assertive persuasion we were able to speak to other team members and they were super friendly and helpful. So best to engage in person with the local Vacasa office.

We booked this sweet home for fishing and kayaking as described in property details, we arrived to an unusable dock. We had kayaks and fishing gear which were useless. Any positive remarks about this house were totally negated by the fact that it was not as advertised and we should have been given this information prior to arrival and the opportunity to look for a home with a working dock. I believe both the owner and property manager (Vacasa) knew of the issue as the neighbor informed us the owner will attempt repairs this fall. I reported the issue immediately to Vacasa, no attempt was made to salvage what was supposed to be a fishing/kayaking off our own dock vacation.

I was so excited to spend a week in this house full of fishing and kayaking with my kids, being in a “dead end” meant my kids could safely kayak around while I sat on the dock watching them. This couldn’t be anymore untrue, the dock is completely broken and unsafe to stand on meaning no sitting out there or hanging out by the water. We rented a kayak and couldn’t even use it fully due to the dock! I am so disappointed because my trip that should have been a week of sitting on the dock and relaxing was not that! Also when we arrived most of the lightbulbs in the house were out needing to be replaced and the knob in the master shower to turn the water on and off was broken and kept falling off. I spoke to the women at the rental office and was promised a refund of a portion of my payments it is now a month later and I still have not received it nor have I received a phone call back.

We do not recommend this house. The pictures are deceiving. The house was clean but needs updating. The dock is falling apart and was not accessible. We rented kayaks with the intention of kayaking on the sound and we’re unable to do so since we were not told that the dock was unable to be used. It did not show that in the picture or state it on the website. The stove did not work and the realtors maintenance man fixed it but it ended up not working again a couple days after it was fixed. We came home from a long day at the beach on Wednesday and the water was shut off. We were told the owner did not pay the bill and that they needed to get a hold of the owner to have the bill paid to be turned back on. The front door would not stay closed unless it was locked and there were hardly any pots or pans to use for cooking. It’s a shame that whoever the owner is, is not keeping up with the house. It’s a good spot but just very disappointing that the house was like this.

The screened in porch didn't have any screen on the door and the door was broken. The solution by the management company was to remove the entire door and not replace it. Really didn't solve any issue. The dock has numerous boards that are not screwed down and move under foot. Not a safe environment for people to walk. the outdoor seating left a lot to be desired as well.

This house was very cute and the views of the bay were outstanding. The house had everything we needed (cookware etc) and perfect size for us. The issue is something that has been a problem in most houses we have stayed in the past few years. The house is never cleaned well. If we have to wait until 6pm to check in, the house should at least be clean enough to stay in. We understand these houses are old and have character (part of the reason we love OBX) but some basic fixes could be made. Our doc was incredibly unsafe with boards coming up and nails everywhere. The coffee pot didn’t fit out machine and the first time we made coffee is spilled everywhere. The toilet paper holder was broken in the master bed room and the electrical box (main fuse box outside) was tied together with a string. All of the issues (plus more) would take a day of maintenance and small fixes to make the house feel safe and livable. These little details could change the entire experience of the home. We actually enjoyed the space a lot and just wished it would have been better taken care of. Routine check ups and basic fixes would be all this house needs.
