Royal mindelo was great!

Royal mindelo best known for cafe royal A historic colonial house with Antique and modern features, like remodeled bathrooms with hot water…Air conditioning works great super cold to relax after a hot day in Sao Vicente, I was provided with a big screen tv with all channels from all over the world. The owners where very accommodating and friendly they provided guidance..The staff was excellent and trustworthy., especially the ladies that clean my room and change my sheets daily. The hotel have a safe which I didn’t have to use because I felt comfortable with the staff. My my main concern when I booked was my safety being a solo traveler and 20 years since the last time that I visited the islands.The owners made sure that while I was a guest at Royal mindelo I was protected and safe.The cleanliness in this place is superb. I had breakfast every morning it was excellent and delicious the coffee was really good. Thank you so much. I will stay again .

Charming olde worlde hotel with lovely staff.

The staff and owners were absolutely lovely and Lorrineida speaks very good English. Olde worlde charm of the hotel and it's central location were much appreciated. Enjoyed a leisurely breakfast each morning. Will definitely return.

Only dislike was that we never got the safe in my room fixed.

We had overall a good experience and stay.

Great friendly service even at night. Basic fine rooms, good enough for the price value. Very clean including the common areas. Great location for restaurants in the city and the beach.

We had one night with strong winds and their balcony doors were not well fixed so banging very loud. However next night with no wind it was no problem anymore. Also the warm water doesn’t stay warm enough for two people showering after each other or for a bath.

Disappointing

The receptionist was very kind, the breakfast is amazing and so much that it would feed an army. The location is also really great, almost at the seafront, easy to walk anywhere in a few minutes.

Unfortunately a few things didn't really work. :( The WiFi didn't work at all during my stay and despite asking for a password that works, it never got fixed. My room was above the kitchen, meaning that there was an awful smell throughout the evening and night, you could only sleep with the balcony door left open for constant ventilation. It would be fine, but as you are in the centre, things were pretty noisy. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were so awfully hard that I slept without them. I'm sorry to say, but of all the places I stayed in at Cabo Verde, this was the least satisfying and I was here for a month.

Comfortable and well located hotel with a very friendly staff.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is very central, near the port and the market.

The Wifi-connection was not very good. It was also too bad that the restaurant was not open in the evening. We stayed here 4 years ago and at that time it was open every night with live music.

Exceptional. Will try to be back.

This is arguably one of the most charming houses in Mindelo; after all it's the cafe where Cesaria Evora started her exceptional career. The staff really go out of their way to help. In our case, we received suggestions for entertainment, got superb help with rebooking and paying a flight via bank deposit (included heading to a bank and negotiating with security), and were directed to a scooter rental. We loved the cachupa & fruit salad breakfast; coffee was also very decent.

Great location Poor hotel

The location is great. Easy walk from the port and just next to the amazing exhibition of African Art in the old palace and close to the culture centre. The ladies are friendly in the bar and reception.

Check in reception is just a tiny small corridor. A lovely lady though but a dark littel place. Dissapointed that the price did not match the price on booking.com. Knowing that local taxes need to be paid this hotel also exlcudes the commission of 15% which results your price to be much higher than expected. The next disspointment was the view of the room and the bathroom without any lights as well as shaving knive of anither guest. I assume when there is no light a cleaning lady is also unable to make the bathroom proper for the next guest. There is only wifi in the restaurant. Unfortunately they had loud music playing there from a youtube channel on a tv screen. All the windows and doors are open so even the sounds from the street are very disturbing since it is a main street. It is inconvenient because in Mindelo the poor people constantly bother you especially when all doors are open. This is not a comfortable quiet place for tourists. Coffee in the restaurant was served in a dirty cup. The cleaning lady came in the room at 9 o clock thinking that I had already checked out. She did apologize though and later helped me get my luggage down stairs. There is no lift in the hotel. The breakfast was simple but ok. A glass of concentrated orange juice from a pack, a scrambled egg, a coffee and 1 bread, cheese,ham and jam served at the table. No buffet style here. For me it was enough but a larg eater in the morning would probably need more. The receptionist listened to my complaints and suggested I speak with the manager. I was only very little time there so I did not want to waste my time on that it is not my responsibility I already mentioned my complaints. When I checked out nothing was said about my complaints. Complaint solving isn't taken seriously here.
