The hotel and grounds are beautiful. The staff is wonderful. The on site restaurants are good but expensive.

This was our first time at a higher end resort, so my expectations may have been a little high in some areas, however, some of my frustrations were definitely warranted. We booked primarily for the use of Palomino Island, and after making the reservation, I called the resort to get the details on how that works. I was told that I would be able to make reservations for the ferry upon check-in, but was assured that they've never had issues with guests not being able to get to the island daily. When I checked in, I was told there were NO reservations for ferry for the duration of our stay, but not to worry, they often have no-shows, so you can still get on the ferry after those with reservations boarded. I was also told that ALL rooms had a pullout bed when I called about the ferry (major issue for our family due to the ages of our kids), but during check in was told that was not the case. The following morning, we got to the ferry dock, and an employee told us that there would absolutely not be anyone allowed to board without a reservation. The boat left with at least 1/3 still available, but we were not allowed to board. We called the front desk three times before getting an answer- that the rules had changed, but they would make an exception, however, there were no open spots on any of the ferries for the rest of that day. My daughter was also charged as an adult for the "temporary breakfast buffet", and after two calls to the front desk, we gave up on getting that refunded.

The resort has beautiful views of the island and ocean. Rooms are average and on the side of dated with the exception of the amazing ocean views from the balcony. Kids enjoyed the water park. Make sure you make reservations to go to the island right away so you can reserve a spot because they fill up quickly. Live Music in the big room on Friday night was a nice addition.

This is a return trip to The El Comquistador and I won’t be returning. The customer service is terrible. When we arrived we were told that we were only allowed one hour at the beach for the entire week that we were staying here. We were told that a bellhop would bring our bags to the room and nobody ever came. We were sent to our room (which was quite nice) but down the funicular with no food at the restaurant down there or any availability for food and a 90 minute wait to get back up because one funicular car was out of service. A call to the manager was unanswered and a submitted complaint on their contact us page only led to a message to “we will have the management get back to you” - which never happened. This place needs a lot of customer service improvement to earn my vacation bookings again

The resort was beautiful. Everything was awesome from food & drinks to activities and amenities. Only complaint we had was the roach we found flying around our room. Besides that would definitely recommend.

Beautiful huge property totally family focused. As a couple on a trip we felt a little out of place on this beautiful family focused property. Kids everywhere. Not good not bad just fact. If I was staying with a young family I’d for sure return but as a couple this wasn’t the place for us.

We had a great stay at El Conquistador! The resort is beautiful, and extremely large - almost overwhelmingly so (to get between the upper and lower levels requires a ride on a funicular). There is so much to do, between the many pools, the water park (which for the time being, is included with your stay - although in the past has had an extra admission fee), the private island, the golf courses, etc. All of the staff members we met were also so friendly and attentive. We initially booked a room in Las Brisas building on Hotels.com, but were notified by the hotel before arrival that we would actually be in the Marina building, as the Brisas building was full. We were initially disappointed by this, particularly as the Marina is SO far from the lobby/parking area and most restaurants, but it ended up being nice to be close to the water park and the ferry to the private island. It was also connected to the nearby town (Las Croabas) by a small road, and there you can find many additional restaurants and kayaking tours of the nearby bioluminescent bay. It was nice to have some nearby local restaurants (and more affordable options) for lunch/dinner. The hotel is quite pricey, although given the many amenities, I think overall worth it; would maybe just recommend eating off site intermittently to save money, as the restaurants we tried were only okay and probably not worth the high prices. But overall stay was fantastic, and we will definitely be back!
