Charming little hotel with big rooms. It’s a short walk to the capital area. Breakfast was so so and switches for the lights were a little odd but overall a fun place.

Hotel is very eclectic…bed was really comfortable and location was great

Many wonderful local businesses for food options nearby. Came here to see a show and have old memories from staying in Madison before. Must have a taste for beer when coming to Madison.
The Ruby Marie has my heart with beautiful old fashioned rooms. Smaller rooms do not have the traffic noise. I enjoyed the bustle of traffic along the fringe of the State Capitol. When the freight trains came by in the middle of the night, I wasn’t bothered. There were some ear plugs for those not wanting to hear the streets of Wilson and Blair.
I would very much recommend a stay here if only for a short while.

The room was comfortable and attractive, a little dusty however. The breakfast was great!

The vent high on the wall was blowing cold air intermittently in our room. Unfortunately it hit us in the head and kept waking us up through the night. There was no way to reroute it blowing on us. When we reported it to the innkeeper, he blew it off so I’m doubtful it will be fixed. Also breakfast was provided but in a crappy little restaurant two doors down. Not exactly a fun weekend getaway for us.

Loved the building, room, and decor. Also appreciated the complimentary coupons for drinks and breakfast. The only complaint is that the shower was not fully cleaned and had some long hairs in and around the drain.

A nice, small, hotel that is "cookie cutter". The location was perfect for us and when we come back to town it'll be our go to place to stay.

super neat,. love the history of this place.

Nice location. High quality finishes in snall hotel. Friendly staff and a clean room. Only problem I had was the tub/shower drain ran slow.

Coolest old building!

It was amazing. And the advice provided at the front desk was dead on where the taxi we scheduled didn’t shore up till it was 30 minutes late…had to drive ourselves to the event. We should have listened.

Beautiful little hotel near the capitol, quiet, comfortable and convenient for walking and parking.

Quaint turn of the century property turned into a Victorian hotel. Helluva idea. Bar on the first floor and continental breakfast. Room was cold, was told heat wouldn’t be “turned on until seven”. I asked for a space heater and was promptly given one: problem solved. I’m thinking this location in the summer would be perfect…across from a small lake and easy access to bars & restaurants. Not to mention the campus & state capitol are close

Hotel was nice for its age. Everyone that worked there was super friendly.

No microwave, heat turned off at night

Overall the hotel was good. It would have been nice if the staff had let us know about the train that blows the horn multiple times at one am.

Absolutely charming. An old hotel thoroughly modernized. Free overnight parking. Free hot breakfast. A cool bar in the basement offering 1 free drink to hotel customers. A nice lakefront walkway across the street.
One caveat: a noisy train runs right by the hotel and awakened my wife just before 7A. Unaware of anything overnight.

The hotel exactly as pictured, exactly what you’d expect.
I don’t believe these things mentioned could be helped during my stay so it didn’t affect my rating:
The room was a cold 64 when I arrived; I switched to heat then increased the temp to 72 but it only reached 69 degrees 6 hrs later. In the middle of the night, the heat must’ve turned off because by the time I woke @8am it was down to 60! It was hard to get out of bed I was so cold but the smell of bacon finally roused me. 2 hrs later it remained at 60 degrees.
Breakfast was undercooked but it’s not provided by the hotel, it’s provided by the cafe on the 1st level. The fruit was fermenting. The muffin, coffee and potatoes were good though.
There was a spider the size of a dime crawling on the ceiling. It thought it pointless to mention it to staff because what could they do-Maybe kill it of which I’d have felt guilty then. But it did start a web on the sprinkler above the bed so I woke up every two hours afraid it’d build a web so big I’d be wrapped in it. This place should market itself as a haunted hotel @ Halloween. With the howling wind, the spider web, the urn in the sitting room, and the inability to connect to the outside world for lack of service, it was spooky.
The WiFi didn’t work, possibly because my reception was spotty being in a room near the elevator. Ultimately, this is what made me leave. I could’ve asked for another room but if the temp & connectivity didn’t improve, I’d be looked @ as a diva

option of adult cereal/granola and yogurt for breakfast. Meat and eggs only. Compared to lots of hotels, a meager breakfast.

Great stay. Again! Don't miss a chance to spend a night at this unique and guest friendly hotel

We liked the Cool, victorian aesthetic, low profile service, quiet, clean, and a free welcome drink.

We were in town to visit our son at U of W and had a great stay. The hotel is old but well kept and it adds to the quaintness of the stay. Bathrooms and bedrooms are clean and comfortable. The room we stayed in was quiet, the employees were friendly, Breakfast was provided along witih a bunch of drink vouchers at the bars below the hotel. Would love to come back.

This cute small prosperity is located in a very walkable area - walkable to the Sylvee, the square, State Street and many restaurants. The only drawback is that a train does go past a few time during the night - but the hotel provides ear plugs in every room to help with that.

Loved the 19th c. feel, especially all of the woodwork. Breakfast was sub-par. Train noise was a bit much. Overall, though, a wonderful stay.

Loved the quaintness and location of this place. Only downfalls we're air conditioning wasn't working in the room and only got hot water in the shower. But it was beautifully decorated and would stay here again!

The front desk guy was solid. He knew my name before I could even spell my last name. Great location. Room is clean.

For our short weekend stay, the Ruby Marie was the perfect place to stay for us. We absolutely loved the character of the building! Things we appreciated the most include: the location (short walk to the Capital & the Sylvee), easy complimentary parking!!!, and breakfast included at the restaurant next-door. We had a wonderful stay, thank you !

Great location and beautiful building. Best breakfast ever!

Free Parking subject to availability due to it being shared with two restaurants. “After hours” check-in is with the bartender at the next door restaurant. Not sure what qualifies as after hours, we arrived about 8:30pm. Hotel is very interesting and unique. Room was nice but a few cleanliness issues. Hairs in shower, stains on walls in bathroom. Could hear couple arguing next room over. Neat place to see but maybe not to stay.

I want to be clear. Overall, we had a great experience and the staff was really nice. Also, the perks for meal tickets and drink tickets to the bar downstairs were appreciated. However, there were a few things that after the first couple of days were no longer tolerable.
First, the A/C. The unit was positioned on the wall perpendicular to the head of the bed in the room. As such, the dry cool air was blowing directly on my face the entire evening. Normally, this wouldn't be an issue however the A/C pulled all of the moisture from the room and left me with a dry mouth in the morning. Also, there seemed to be some kind of mold or pollen issue in the room as while we were in it both, my now fiance, started coughing pretty hard and were extremely stuffed up until we went outside.
Second, turndown service. We only requested this once during our week-long stay and after we came back we found that they hadn't even replaced the sheets. Just made the bed. There were some small towels replaced but others were left.
I did enjoy my time in Madison and the proximity to the bars and the railroad tracks I was willing to overlook. I don't think I will be staying at this hotel if I come back to Madison in the future and cannot recommend this to others.

Hotel Ruby Marie is a gem in Madison. Free parking, clean rooms and extra niceties like a free drink in the attached bar and free breakfast. Highly recommend.

Very nice room with a great tub. Joshua at the front desk was helpful. We were only there for a night. My only complaint or surprise really was the nearby train that blew the horn but it only came by a couple of times.

It was a cute hotel, not what one would usually find. A little musty smelling, but clean and comfortable.

The hotel is a gem. Meticulously restored. Clean, comfortable. Very well located....in great proximity to the lake, many excellent dining facilities & bars.

We loved the hotel, the old beautiful building, and the windows! Our room was huge and the bed was very comfortable.

The restoration is amazing. It's like stepping back in time - but with a really nice warm shower. There is a mild, "trapped in a museum" creepiness that I really liked but some may not.
Breakfast was great. They had several delicious pies!
There only given side for light sleepers is the train that comes thru at 2am. Not sure they need to blow the horn at that hour...
