It was wonderful! I did read people complained about noise due to bars and restaurants around, I was there for cinco de mayo and honestly it wasn't loud enough to keep us awake. Room is clean, friendly staff and I loved the location. Definitely staying again when I visit san diego

I have ashtma and allergies and when i first walked in i could smell what smelled like must and rat pee and when i was in my room it was cold and hard to breathe because the smell was overwhelming and i was unable to stay i had to find another hotel so my hope is that they will get these issues corrected so it will be a better experience for other visitors to come the staff i met were nice and helpful

Wi-Fi is too slow and just comfortable with location being close to downtown

The decor is pretty cool, but the staff was not very welcoming or helpful. It did not seem to have the community vibe most hostels do. And personally I was not a huge fan of all the stairs.

Great unique experience. I would only recommend to make sure to bring shower shoes and the hotel does need to get new shower curtains due to rust and slight mold on the curtains. Room was very cold with the ac running and I felt comfortable like I was in my own bed.
4.0
Overall it was a good experience. The only thing I can think of is that we lacked the AC.

The place is situated in a safe part of the city. Very close proximity to restaurants, bars, and grocery. Be warned though, the hostel is sitting on top of a bar. It gets very loud, especially on weekends. The staff are friendly and accommodating except for that tall lanky Italian guy who was rude and very unfriendly. Overall, a good place to stay.

The art work and staff were amazing! Awesome vibe!

Really cool spot to stay! Had my 10 year old with ne and it was a fun/new way to stay for him.

A wonderful stay at Lucky D's hostel. I did one of the 4 bed, mixed gender, A/C rooms for a night. Room was clean, quiet, and safe. I got a good night's rest and a nice shower in the morning. Only had one roommate. Things to keep in mind are must pay with Zelle or cash to avoid a 4% fee. Towels cost $1 each. No soaps provided for shower. These are worthwhile tradeoffs though for the low cost and good location. Definitely get the AC room even if it's cooler out due to general traffic/city noise on the street.

Affordable
A little loud outside from street noise.

If you only want to stay overnight it is sufficient. I wouldn't recommend it for a real vacation.
+ Super centrally located.
- Needs renovation. Many parts such as the toilet flush are defective.
+ Kitchen can be used.
- Cleanliness was not particularly good.
- Receptionists are not very motivated.

So was working a gig for San Diego Comic Con 2023. Didn't feel like getting a hotel, so been trying out these options when browsing hotels dot com. These popped up and saw the raiting that I've decided to give it a try. Check in was very help ful, same with providing stuff I needed like towel for shower room. After that got to my room two bunk beads for 4 people. Checked out the facilities and had everything from community kitchen were I ate dinner to breakfast. Reading room to community room and room to work on laptop or devices.
Only think keeping it from my review and reason why I've didn't give it perfect it saturday night restraunt/bar below the place got super noisey that it woke up one person in room trying to sleep and 1st time I got someone that snored so lound.
Overall intresting experience but not the worst and idk if i'd return or next time should have given one of the expensive rooms a try.

Lucky D’s had everything you would need and is in a great location. Very happy with my stay, good price and friendly people.

great location, hard to find street parking, the email instruction from hotel helps a lot.

My first time ever in a hostel. Lucky D's impressed me! Simple to check in. Friendly staff. Felt safe. Clean.
It was a tad warm in the room. The ceiling fan helped. I was on the street side which is a little noisy with windows open.
Parking in the garage a block away was easy and safe. There was even a Padres game at same time. Some of it is prepaid. I used cash and it was all good. I think
I recommend Lucky D's. I would stay there again for sure.

Many great places to hang around, great location and friendly staff

Good place to stay if you are on a budget and need to be downtown. Must bring ear plugs since the building is not sound proof and you can hear street noise even on higher floors. Modestly clean, but not spotless.

I was visiting my daughter who is in San Diego for school. I was alone for much of my trip except when spending time with my daughter. Once I got to know the area around Lucky D’ I became comfortable with the surroundings.

I had the private room in 314. The bed room itself was nice. Pillow and bed were very comfortable. It was right next to the dining room so I could hear the people laughing and muffled talking. Only thing is that it was past 10pm. During the day it wouldn't have bothered me but late at night was no excuse. They only have the breakfast on weekends, not during weekdays. Parking for me, was really easy. It is street parking only, and the property emails you detailed and helpful info before your stay. I was there only for one night. Seems like a lively place. Two bathrooms and shower stalls on each floor. There was no elevator, only stairs.

For the priced i paid, it was a good place. Definitely needs some work done to it, but over a decent place to stay. All staff were very friendly and helpful! Close to a love of things which was very convenient

Excellent place for stayin at SD! Everyone is friendly and culturally diverse, plus walking distance from most places in Gaslamp. Furniture and spaces are in good conditions and kept clean.

Everything is good, new beds are needed or don't let people pull up the fitted sheet to expose the stains in mattress.

The price was very affordable. The rooms were very spacious and the bunks were very sturdy. I did not like how noisy it was outside on Market street, but that is not really something that the hostel has control over. Just be aware that the street won't get quieter until about 1 or 2 AM, and even then its still not "quiet"

Lucky D's is very colorful, bohemian and chill. Lots of international students coming and going. People seem to respect the rules, like not flushing the wrong stuff down the toilet, and keeping the common rooms pretty cleaned up. The people at the front desk were very nice. Occasional pot smell. One thing, bring earplugs if you plan on sleeping, since the windows in our 4 bed room couldn't be closed, and there is a restaurant downstairs, which plays music until around 2am, so you get that and the street noise, plus the garbage trucks in the morning. Each bed has a fan and light, but neither of mine worked, so people used their iphone lights after lights out. Also, there are small lockers in the rooms, and you bring your own lock. They recommend a nearby CVS. The bunk bed I was on was actually very comfy, and had clean sheets and a clean pillow.
I was going to an event at the Convention Center, so each morning, I easily walked down there, having breakfast on the way. Being downtown, there were lots of homeless folks, but they were chill.

I liked the fact that there was a receptionist late at night, and also that the toilet and shower were clean, and water drained well. However, there was no water in the sink faucet in one of the toilets, and the sheets were dirty they caused itching.

Lucky D’s was great value to stay in San Diego! It’s quite centrally located, it was in a good location for trips to 5th street and the convention centre. First night, I was in a room where I didn’t feel comfortable and the staff acted quickly and swapped my room for the rest of my stay which was excellent! The place was pretty clean and has lots of space to socialize. Biggest issue I had with “cleanliness” was that the refrigerator didn’t entirely seem to be cold enough to store food safely, I think maybe it was just too full! Shower areas and bathrooms were clean considering the number of people using them. We did have an issue with our room door hinges falling off one morning, we laughed it off though and the were quick to fix it for us! I would recommend to stay here if you’re looking to meet people while travelling! :)

The property reminded me of a college dorm, colorful, clean, lively, and reasonable price for the Gaslamp area.
Good choice for a one or two night stay on a budge. :)

I have stayed there before, had a great time but with one of the staff, I booked a week stay and was denied, I never caused any problems , paid on time for an extended stay. They allow the homeless stay and while outside one of them came after me and I defended myself. But since they collect money from the city and state , I was not allowed to check in. It is OK though, I stayed in PB and will agian when I come back.
