Beautiful area but not close to anything. Horse taxi round trip was $20 per person. One restaurant close by. Biking feasible but very hilly on unpaved roads. Walk into town was more than 2 miles which is fine in nice weather. Room was nice with frig and microwave, balcony, comfy bed. The island is not senior friendly and expensive. Budget accordingly.

I hope I don’t have to stay here again. It is super inconvenient especially in October when it’s cold and wet. Our room was dirty, the shower wouldn’t drain, the shower curtain didn’t even cover the whole shower so water got everywhere. The bed was hard as a rock and pillows were poor. Also there was no comforter just two blankets. For the money you save here, in time spent and money for taxis it’s not worth it IMO.
Two positives pretty view and good water pressure.

I stayed in a pet friendly condo due to having my dog with me. While keeping the pet friendly part in mind, I expected it not to be the cleanest room, but it was pretty terrible. The floor had not been cleaned from the previous guest, food wrappers were under the bed, and mud splattered across walls. Also, the bed was extremely uncomfortable. If you plan on bringing your dogs to the island, look for another hotel. I should also mention the location of the condominiums is quite the hike to Main Street. So, you either will spend $$$ on taxis or walk roughly 2.5 miles to eat or shop.

Junk laying throughout the property… the room was dirty with filthy walls and a pull out sofa that was old and broken! They really need to clean the place up! The walls are paper thin and can hear everything…. Also way to far from Main St… wouldn’t stay again!

Walls paper thin, , noisy, muddy and construction around property. Figure $50 round trip per couple with tip for horse taxi to downtown. Nothing to eat close by within short walking distance unless you want to pay $$$$$! Overall experience on the island 1 star. Oh…..couldn’t stand the stench of horse poop! Won’t ever come back here.

We were happy with our stay, it was well worth the price. I thought there would be a few more amenities in the room but it was only a mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Pretty much a glorified hotel room. I did meet one of the owners of the building and he was very pleasant. I was happy to see they were making some improvements to the building. It’s not a complaint but the bathroom ceiling needs some attention and saw some water staining on the ceiling near the slider. I would stay here again.

I would recommend the Sunset Condos. They are walking distance from town. There are hills, but horse drawn taxis are available if the walk is too much. The space was clean and had what we needed for settling in after a day out. Nothing fancy but it’s a decent place a little out of the way of the hustle and bustle.

Loved cycling and exploring Mackinac! I travelled solo and stayed in Cedarwood unit 106 for 8 nights (4 nights were booked with Expedia) while visiting my brother who is employed on the island. The unit is clean, with a comfortable bed and furnishings. Pretty peekaboo view of lake/sunset through the trees from the patio. Well laid out unit with a wet bar area containing a small fridge, coffee maker and microwave. As I was alone, there was adequate storage for my clothes however a bedside table with some drawers, and some extra hangers would be helpful as the condo owner has locks on all drawer space.
No housekeeping during my stay.
Major complaint is that the unit is NOT soundproofed! I felt I was in the same room as my neighbours. There is a connecting interior door with the neighbouring unit. This door requires insulation, or at least installation of a door sweep to close the significant bottom gap and help impede sound waves. The lack of soundproofing was both uncomfortable and awkward. (fortunately, I did not have neighbours every night during my stay)
Minor suggestion would be Improved lighting in the unit in the area of the trundle bed. The outdoor area is also dark. Make sure to bring a headlamp or bike lamp to navigate your way into town as it is very dark! I enjoy riding my bike, but if that is not an option for you, it is apparently a 45 minute walk or carriage ride.
Lastly, the Wi-Fi is horrible or almost nonexistent and that was very frustrating.

Our stay was great—clean and cozy. My only complaint is how far it was from town. It’s a 30 minute taxi ride, 45 minute shuttle ride, 35 minute walk or just a 12 minute bike ride, but with a toddler we opted for taxi most times. For a family with kids, I’d recommend staying closer in town.

My daughter and I were very pleased with our stay. We had a beautiful veiw from our balcony, and the condo was very quaint & clean. My favorite feature was the very comfortable bed which was most appreciated after all the activities of the day. I loved the quiet and woodsy setting the condo was in away from all the hustle and bustle of the busy tourist area. It took awhile to wait for a taxi to pick us up to get to the condos, but the horse drawn taxi was certainly a great addition to the charm upon our arrival. We would stay at Sunset Condominiums again!

Condo staff was great! We were there in the off season and they didn’t have a porter. An employee offered to go to the dock to retrieve our luggage! The views were great. The bed could use a replacing, it has a large “sink hole” in the middle and we both rolled rolled to the middle. We are already planning our trip for next year.

Walls very thin regarding noise, needs grout-caulk-paint/drywall repairs and maintenance. Outer building and grounds same. Missing plunger in bathroom sink. Had to ask for soap. Was clean, good mattress, coffee provided, plenty of towels. Bottom line….you get what you pay for.

Offering bike rental at your place would be super helpful as it is quite a way to go. It seems bike rental shouldn’t be so expensive on the island also. If the outside of the building isn’t taken better care of the wood rot and lichen will make the place no longer functional. The view was nice and the place is worthy of being better maintained outside

We love the value, amazing for on-island stays. Even the inconvenience of a 1.7 mile somewhat walkable trip to town was made an asset because we liked the horse drawn taxi rides to and fro for $10 plus tip. Comfortable beds, lake/sunset view also nice. Hours of office limited but response to request for extra coffee packs was immediate. Will stay here again.

The condo suite was VERY well equipped with anything that you needed! Clean and quiet.... Had a little view of the bridge and the straights. Would definitely recommend this place

We enjoyed the location, great view of the lake and quiet. The space was a bit dirty, very dusty and cobwebs throughout the space. It would’ve been nice to have laundry soap as well. The bed was very uncomfortable. In terms of soft to firm it was extremely soft almost felt like a water bed not in a good way. Something more in the middle of soft to firm would be better. Overall 7/10. Thank you.

We loved staying at the sunset condominiums ..we stayed in the sandalwood building. It was perfect for us .. we would definitely stay there again. The management was super nice and accommodating.

My room was ready and available earlier than it was stated. I walked into a very clean fresh smelling room that looked gorgeous. I spent a lot of time sitting on my private balcony enjoying my view of the woods and the lake and the bridge. It was nice having easy access to the bike and hiking trails in the interior. Being away from the hustle and bustle and noise of downtown was even more welcoming. The check in and check out was very easy with text messaging. And I had no problems so I never did have to get in contact with anybody. I will highly recommend this place to all my friends and family who want to enjoy the other side of Mackinac Island and not the town side.

The inside is nice, cozy and clean. Love the sunset view from deck. Enjoyed the horse and buggy ride from town and back. Helpful porter.
The draw back: it’s our first trip to the island and came without knowledge of how the bags are handled upon arrival since we arrive much earlier than the check-in time. We called the condominium and received minimal instructions- good enough to further ask for help from the dock porters. They are very helpful.
However, we enjoyed our stay in the island and in the condominium. We hope to return.

Our door fridge handle was broken and just set back in so when i grabbed it to open the fridge it came right off. The walls are quite thin, we could hear our neighbors quite well, whether it be talking or doing other things.

We definitely enjoyed staying at the Sunset Condo. It’s a small room but can’t beat the price. Since it was our first trip to the island we didn’t realize how far it was from the town. We were too tired to bike back to town for dinner and didn’t want to spend $40 for a taxi. Instead we spent our money at The Woods. Good choice just expensive!
