We had a fantastic stay at the Pinewood Camping Pods and were very impressed overall.
A small thing to note is that the main car park is on the opposite side of the bridge, so you may need to walk over with your luggage. The resort does offer a shuttle service, but it’s worth arranging this in advance.
The food was excellent. We ate at the Garden Room and were really impressed with both the quality and the range of options, especially for children. We also had dinner at the Bear Lodge restaurant, where the food and service were equally good. Throughout our stay, the staff were friendly, professional, and always willing to help. The atmosphere around the reserve is beautiful and makes for a very relaxing break.
If you’re travelling with children, it’s worth checking the buggy policy before booking. The reserve is quite hilly and some routes, particularly the Trojan Steps, can be challenging with a pram and young children. A buggy would have been incredibly useful during our stay in a Pinewood Pod, but we were unable to access one as they appear to be reserved for certain accommodation types. This was the only downside of an otherwise excellent experience.
Overall, a wonderful stay with great food, amazing service, and a unique setting. We’d happily return.

Great location we could see the lions from our room! Only slight downside was the sofa bed was a little on the uncomfortable side, but we had a great time and the staff were great too.

Our shepherd hut in Pinewood was spotlessly clean and refreshed every day. Staff were always on hand if needed and really helpful at checkin (the process for checking in and out was seamless). Marshmallows, skewers, logs for the indoor and outdoor wood burners, and upmarket tea bags all complimentary; only let down by basic Nescafé coffee sachets and pots of UHT milk. A small fridge would be useful to allow for proper fresh milk and keeping drinks cool.
Beds were comfy and the separated bunk beds over the main double an ingenious use of space. Nice toiletries.
Excellent location within the park, right next to the lions and tigers as well as the entrance footbridge from the car park making for easy loading/unloading of luggage and getting in and out of the resort (only downside to this is it is right on the road so while you are well separated and can’t see the road there is traffic noise). Quick stroll to the park Base Camp, and an easy downhill walk through the animal enclosures to our favourite eatery Baby Dolls for surprisingly excellent pizza - but especially with children you’ll probably want one of their smart Black Cabs to take you back up the steep hill and they can take a long time to come so plan ahead!
