About this cottage rental

Located in Acadia National Park, this lovely cottage for $1,500 per night is a great option for your next trip. Step back into the true Golden Era of Bar Harbor in this beautifully situated, historic estate that will serve as the perfect backdrop to your gathering. Whether hosting a crowd of twelve or a smaller group, you will soon discover why Redwood is the perfect spot for your summer stay. Walk into Bar Harbor's vibrant village, or escape the crowds from the privacy and comfort of your waterfront lawn. Discover Acadia's trails and major entrances just around the corner, or explore the accessible shorefront right at your feet. Bar Harbor's popular Shore Path, a public walking path, is just a few steps to the north, but don't worry - the public pathway doesn't cross this property, so your privacy is protected! FIRST FLOOR: Enter the large front hall with beautifully restored original wood floors and architectural details throughout. To the right, a spacious living room offers seating for conversation or watching a movie on the flat-screen Internet TV. Escape to one corner for puzzles or cards on a rainy day. Step through the French doors to the screened sun porch, which offers a wonderfully casual space for hanging out. Doors from the sunporch lead to the waterside yard. Steps up from the sun porch lead to an elevated, sun-drenched Sitting Area with magnificent views out to Bar Harbor's entrance and breakwater with Bald Porcupine Island beyond. Step down from the Sitting Area back to the front hall, where to the right of the front door is a small Study (not pictured) and Half Bath (not pictured). A formal Dining Room easily seats 12 around a fully expanded dining room table and also features water views. Just beyond is functional, but - sorry - slightly dated Kitchen with a table that seats six. Just beyond the Kitchen is one of our favorite Mud Rooms ever, perfect for storing hiking boots, jackets, and sporting gear. Laundry facilities, a second refrigerator, a wine refrigerator, and Full Bath with a shower stall can also be found here, as well as a back staircase to the second floor. SECOND FLOOR: From the front hall, stairs lead to the second floor. At the southern end of the house, the Primary Bedroom includes a King Bed and a sweet work area overlooking the water. Bedroom 2 features a unique stained glass architectural window, Double Bed, and water views. Bedroom 3 offers Twin Beds and a semi-private Full Bath with a combined tub and shower, also accessible by the hall and shared with the Primary Bedroom and Bedroom 2. Just a bit further down the hall is Bedroom 4 with Queen Bed and water views. Bedroom 5 features a Double Bed, and two short steps down from the central hallway is Bedroom 6 with Twin Beds. These last three bedrooms share a Full Bath with combined tub and shower (not pictured, but consistent with the bath that is pictured here). A back staircase leads to the Kitchen area. Note that there is a stunning period full bath with metal tub and high tank pull toilet, but, alas, there is no water to this facility. What to do with such a historic treasure? We're not sure, except that it deserves our appreciation! But please don't try to use the commode. It would lead to disastrous results. OUTDOOR SPACES: Sweeping lawns, delightfully sylvan wooded spaces, private low tide rocky beach, and enough space for lots of play, relaxation, and hanging out around the fire pit. A little whiffle ball game, corn hole, outdoor meals, watching the boating traffic coming and going, star gazing, or s'mores over the fire are all possible from these spacious grounds. EXTRAS: EV charger for Tesla vehicles available for Tenant use. PLEASE NOTE: Fireplaces are not operable in this home and are for decorative purposes only. NOTE: As of February 2024, this house was found to have minor infractions that temporarily suspend its ability to be permitted by the Town of Bar Harbor per the town's newly enforced Life Safety Codes for short term rental properties. While we anticipate that these fixes will be in place by the May 31 due date, we have a duty to disclose the situation in the unlikely event that the Town denies a Rental Permit to this homeowner prior to May 31, 2024.
