Everything on the lush, overgrown trail is within walking distance, but without the traffic and commercial presence of Carmel. This village is humble, and with vineyards nearby, the windy stretch of Carmel Valley Road that leads to the Cachagua Valley feels more like wine country. We spent a recent Sunday exploring the strip. Here's what stood out. Georis Winery: The Georis family farms 28 acres of Bordeaux varietals in the upper Carmel Valley. They're known for European-style wines, with lower alcohol and less oak. Walter Georis, who owns Carmel's French-inspired cafe, La Bicyclette, as well as the popular Casanova, recruited winemaker Damien Georis (no relation) from Bordeaux when they realized they grew up in the same village in Belgium. The sips: Damien's Bordeaux blend, La Chappelle, is exceptional. This house was really a fun and unique place to stay! Beds were comfortable, there were plenty of towels, supplies, dishes, silverware, etc. and the cookware was good quality. Management was very helpful and provided a high chair and portable crib for baby. The hot tub was great even in cold weather. It’s a quiet neighborhood but close to markets, restaurants, wine tasting, Carmel, etc. We enjoyed a family of deer that visited the yard. Our family had a great time at the house!

This is a very unique property in an nice location. It would be even better if if were maintained. Exhaust fan over the stove/oven did not work; when the a maintenance team came to fix it they found that there wasn't any fan installed. The shower in the master suite did not work; the plumbers replaced the shower head and it worked for exactly two showers before being reduced to a dribble again. The cable connection to the TV in the kitchen does not work. Although there is a garbage disposal visible under the kitchen sink, there is not obvious switch to turn it on. A message to VRBO/Luxe Vaca - if you are going to continue to list this place at the current rates, you really should do a better job of due diligence. It is fairly outrageous to charge what you do for something this poorly maintained.

Our party of 8 had a wonderful stay at this amazing home. It is perfectly situated to enjoy the area. Less than a 5 minute walk into the village where there are ample places to eat, drink, and shop, and around 20 minutes drive into Carmel. The home was exceptionally clean when we arrived and it was very well-stocked. The outdoor space was amazing although the pool had not been heated. It was a chilly week so we enjoyed the hot tub daily. The bedrooms were spacious although the middle bedroom on the second floor was not a bedroom at all. It had a bed in it but no doors, which was not shown in the photo of the floor plan. We spent a lot of time in the kitchen/dining area, which really needed some extra light. One couple stayed in the guest house but there was no lock so valuables had to be bought into the main house whenever we left for the day. Overall, the home was a great find and we would rent this property again.

We rented the villa for a long weekend with friends (11 adults and a child) and really enjoyed it. The location is within walking distance to restaurants, wineries, and markets. The home has comfortable leather couches so a large group can chat near the wood-burning fireplace. The garden is huge and well maintained with a full set of outdoor furniture, and the pool and spa were nice and warm. We had a private chef come and cook a celebration dinner and the kitchen was very well stocked with cookware and serving pieces. The fancy stove in some pictures has been replaced by a basic stove/oven, but it worked fine. The local property managers were very responsive over text. The religious decor is an interesting nod to the local mission, but I'd suggest removing crosses from bedrooms. We did notice a few minor things that needed attention, like loose stones by the pool, a missing drain cover in a sink, and a toilet tank cover that was broken and mended. The kitchen could really use a full set of drinking glasses, though there were plenty of cups. One of the bedrooms upstairs is an open room that has been screened off, a proper wall and door would be better. Overall it was a great option for our group and we'd consider returning.

This property provided a perfect setting for our family to be together for a wedding at Holman Ranch in Carmel Valley. It is spacious, comfortable, well equipped, quiet, beautiful and unique. Dominic our contact was prompt and responsive. The outdoor space is gorgeous with uninterrupted views, a pool and hot tub, even a giant connect 4 game to entertain young guests. Plenty of space to hang out with family members, private rooms, fabulous kitchen for entertaining, quality furnishings, pool towels, blankets, everything we needed. We hope future guests have as wonderful a time as we did. Tina and Joseph
